The biggest idol in Flamengo's history, Zico was praised by former player Iranildo in an interview with Charla Podcast. Iranildo proved the thesis that all athletes "tremble" when talking to the king and even made comparisons with Lionel Messi, current World Champion.

Iranildo played for Flamengo between the 90s and early 2000s. Former player had the privilege of wearing the number 10 shirt. Remembering that the number was immortalized by Galinho in Mais Querido. In the podcast, Iranildo commented on the responsibility and emotion of wearing the Historic Mantle.

“I spent practically two years on the Flamengo bench. When Sávio left, in 97, I took 10. I said ‘I’m not going to give up’. I fought and wore the number 10 shirt, worn by the greatest player in Flamengo's history, Zico. My brother... it's chilling. When I get close to Zico it shakes like hell! (laughs)”, he recalled.

The former midfielder continued to praise Zico and took the opportunity to compare him with Messi. Iranildo placed the two players on the same shelf, just citing a mere difference between the legends.

“What Zico played, my brother… I even tell my son. Left-handed Messi was Zico with his right leg. Anyone who saw Zico play sees Messi today. A midfielder who scored goals, broke the line, found the pass…”, he added.

IRANILDO’S PASS BY FLAMENGO

The former midfielder also played on the wing. Iranildo defended Rubro Negro between 1996 and 2003. Even though he was a reserve in the first few years, "Chuchu", as he was nicknamed, became multi-champion with Mais Querido. In total, he won 14 titles, including the Mercosul Cup (1999), the Champions Cup (2001) and the Carioca triumph over Vasco (99, 2000 and 2001). The former player played 282 games in total and scored 34 goals.
