Leandro Damião, former Flamengo athlete, signed a contract with Coritiba where he is expected to play until the end of the 2024 Brazilian Series B Championship. The striker, in high spirits, performed at the Paraná club this Monday (12).
With Slimani's departure, Coritiba searched the market for an athlete who could take on the team's number 9 shirt, and found a worthy successor in the figure of Damião. Despite having already performed, the 34-year-old athlete undergoes a series of medical examinations to finally be integrated into the squad.
The signing will mark the center forward's reunion with coach Guto Ferreira, his coach at Internacional in 2017. In fact, Ferreira contacted the athlete particularly to convince him to wear the Coritiba shirt, which directly influenced his decision.
Last week, Leandro used social media to express his enthusiasm and the optimism involved in this hiring. “Expectations are high. The athlete had played for Kawasaki Frontale in Japan since 2018, where he played 178 matches, scored 71 goals and conceded 24 assists. At the beginning of this year, Damião terminated his contract with the club where he won two J-Leagues, one Emperor's Cup, one Japanese League Cup and two Japanese Super Cups.

Flamengo idol Adriano Imperador stated in an interview that he played more than some of the biggest names in world football. With a career marked by talent, physical strength, and humility , "Didico" continues to be fondly remembered by Flamengo fans.
During an appearance on the show Boteco do Chula, Adriano was asked if he had performed at a higher level than stars like Ronaldo, Romário, Ibrahimovic, Mbappé, Lewandowski, and Gabigol . The former player candidly stated that he considers himself superior to some of them.
