Without a club since leaving Grêmio at the end of last year , Renato Gaúcho still has a dream: to lead the Brazilian national team. In an interview with the "ESPN" portal, the coach said that he has not given up on the yellow team and it would be an honor to coach the five-time world champion.
"Yes, (the dream of taking over the national team) continues. The coach, regardless of who it is, has to have the dream of coaching the Brazilian national team as long as he is guaranteed to do so. When I was a player and arrived at Grêmio, I had the dream of getting into the national team. The following year, I arrived and stayed there for 10 years. So you have to dream big," said Renato.
"When I was a player and arrived at Grêmio, I had the dream of making it to the national team. The following year, I arrived and stayed there for 10 years. So you have to dream big," he continued.
"As a coach, you have to think about reaching the national team, which is the pinnacle of Brazilian football. I don't know if I'll reach it one day, but why would I say I don't have that dream? When I work at clubs, it's to win titles and be remembered by the Brazilian national team," he argued.
"I try to do my part. If one day I make it, great, I'll make my dream come true. If I don't, that's fine, what am I going to do? Now, I'll always have the thought and dream of coaching the national team," he added.
The coach then stated that his work with the teams is motivated by the search for titles and to be remembered to take over the five-time world champion.
"Every day we learn something, but these years have taught me. The best result is my resume as a coach. I try to win titles and do good work, which is the obligation of any coach," he noted.
"How do you get to the national team? Doing great things by working hard and winning titles. That's why I say: I'll do my part. If I get the opportunity, great. If I don't, I'll continue to have this dream," he added.
Raphinha's disapproval
Renato also criticized Raphinha's recent interview in which the midfielder said that Brazil's players would "beat each other up on and off the field" in Argentina. Furthermore, Portaluppi pointed out that, in fact, Rapinha's statements ended up motivating Argentina and creating "great distrust" in the refereeing.
"It's the rivalry. He may have said some words that he may have regretted later. One thing is what Romário did, Túlio, Edmundo, me. We promoted the big classics, but not in terms of violence," he said.
"What he said is a serious thing, it has to be done with a 'fist'. It's not the way to do it, especially when it comes to a classic. You leave the referee with a lot of distrust, you motivate the opponent. You have to know how to use your words ", he concluded.

This Saturday (23), in front of more than 45 thousand fans at Maracanã, Flamengo repeated last year's feat and lifted the U-20 World Cup trophy for the second consecutive time. The victory against Barcelona, achieved on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time, had as its hero goalkeeper Léo Nannetti, just 18 years old.
The match was marked by twists and turns. Flamengo opened the scoring, but suffered a comeback from the Spanish side. In stoppage time, they tied the match in a dramatic move, sending the match to penalties. It was at this point that Nannetti shone, saving two decisive penalties that secured the victory.
During regulation time, Nannetti had already distinguished himself with key saves that prevented Barcelona from extending their lead . In the penalty shootout, he showed composure and reflexes, saving two shots, sealing the 6-5 victory for the red-and-blacks.
With solid performances, the goalkeeper confirms his status as a promising young player. He will have played 17 official matches in 2025 and has established himself as one of the most promising players of the 2007 generation.
Having come through the club's youth ranks since the under-9s, Nannetti recently renewed his contract until the end of 2029. The new contract includes a release clause of around 70 million euros (approximately R$445 million), an amount considered "European level" by the board.

Vitória is preparing for a challenging clash in the 21st round of the Brazilian Championship. The Bahian team faces Flamengo this Monday (25), at 9 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. Despite the two teams' different moments in the table, striker Osvaldo showed confidence in seeking a good result in Rio de Janeiro.
"We're going to Maracanã and trying to play a great game. We haven't lost at Maracanã in a few games, so I think we can build on that to put in a great performance. Flamengo is a tough opponent; they're the best team in our football world , and they've been achieving great results," the striker declared, before adding:
"But on the field, it's 11 against 11, especially against Vitória, who have a history of playing great games and surprising in several matches. I think we have what it takes to get there and get a great result . We know how difficult the game will be," Osvaldo concluded.
Flamengo takes the field to defend its sole lead in the Brasileirão , with 43 points. Filipe Luís's team is enjoying an excellent run of form , having gone six games unbeaten in the competition.
In addition to a solid run in the national championship, the Rio de Janeiro team secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores last week by eliminating Internacional. Prior to that, they had already beaten the same opponent 3-1 at Beira-Rio, cementing their good run.
