Corinthians officially announced the dismissal of Mano Menezes this Monday (05), after the defeat at home to Novorizontino, on Sunday (04). While the São Paulo club has not yet defined the new commander, coaching agents got in touch suggesting names. One of these names was Domenèc Torrent, who played for Flamengo in 2020.
According to journalist Marco Bello Jr, the name of Spanish Domènec Torrent was presented to the Corinthians board, which is analyzing the possibility. Dome, as he was known when he was at Flamengo, has been out of work since the 2021/2022 season, when he led Galatasaray (TUR) in 19 games.
Mano Menezes, who also played for Flamengo in 2013, was booed and cursed by the fans on Sunday (04). The coach leaves the club in the relegation zone of the Campeonato Paulista, with defeats to clubs from the interior, such as Novorizontino, São Bernardo and Ituano. Furthermore, under Mano's command, Corinthians suffered their first defeat to São Paulo at the Neo Química Arena.
At the beginning of the year, Domènec was close to signing with Athletico-PR. The Curitiba club sent an official proposal to the coach, however, the Spaniard was slow to respond. Thus, the board got angry and abandoned the negotiation, opting to hire Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio.
Domènec arrived at Flamengo in July 2020, with the responsibility of replacing Jorge Jesus, who had won several titles with club in 2019/2020. Despite having arrived with the reputation of 'Guardiola's assistant', the coach was fired in November of the same year. In total, Dome led the team in 24 games, obtaining 14 wins, four draws and six defeats.
Despite his short spell, Dome was able to add the Brazilian Championship title to his resume. After all, he led the team in 18 of the 38 rounds. In the final stretch of the competition, Rogério Ceni took command and led Flamengo to their eighth Brazilian championship.
