Coach Tite has not yet confirmed the lineup that Flamengo < /a>will take to the field against Botafogo, in the classic that will be played on Sunday, at 6:30 pm, at the Nilton Santos Stadium. However, some changes to the team are already known. The absence of two of the squad's main attackers, Pedro and Gabigol, is a certainty, as both are recovering from thigh injuries and are only expected to return to the pitch in September.

In addition, the Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar will also be absent for this match. Pulgar, who had been an important player in the red and black midfield, will be automatically suspended and, therefore, will not be able to be selected in the classic. These losses force the coach to look for alternatives in the squad, aiming to maintain competitiveness and seek a good result in the duel.

A "FLEA" BEHIND THE EAR

With the absence of Pedro and Gabigol, Tite will have to rethink Flamengo. The two players are considered the team's offensive pillars, with direct participation in many of the goals scored this season. The lack of both puts additional pressure on the other available attackers, such as Bruno Henrique, who should be the main name in attack. In addition to him, other players such as Luiz Araújo could be an option to fill the vacancies left by the injured.

In midfield, Pulgar's absence also requires restructuring. The Chilean has been a constant presence in containment and in the transition between defense and attack, and his suspension could open up space for other midfielders like Victor Hugo, who could be used to fill this gap. The classic against Botafogo is a match of great importance, not only because of the historical rivalry between the clubs, but also because of the situation of both in the championship table

The Military Police will have something new in the three games taking place this week in Rio de Janeiro: the use of reconnaissance facial on body cameras inside and around Maracanã and the Botafogo stadium, Nilton Santos.

Fluminense x Atlético-MG and Botafogo and São Paulo play this Wednesday (18) in the city. The first match will be at 7pm, at Maracanã. The second will take place at 9:30 pm, at Nilton Santos. On Thursday (19) it is the turn of Flamengo and Peñarol (URU), at Maracanã.

The State Government classified the planning for the games as a "task force". There will be more than two thousand police officers involved in the matches, including military and civilian personnel. The objective of facial recognition is to try to find criminals infiltrating the fans. The action also has the support of the Public Ministry and the Football Federation of Rio de Janeiro (Ferj).

Several areas of the Military Police are in the task force: In the regions close to the stadiums there will be the Command of Specialized Police (CPE), the Special Operations Command (COE) and all area units of the corporation.

Policing around and inside the stadiums will be the responsibility of the Specialized Stadium Policing Battalion (Bepe). The escort of fans of visiting teams will be the responsibility of RECOM (Special Rounds and Crowd Control) and the new BTM (Tactical Motorcycle Battalion), both upon arrival and departure.

Peñarol fans will be monitored by the Intelligence sector of the Military Police, with support from the Federal Highway Police, as a large number come from Uruguay in chartered cars or buses. Policing will also be reinforced in the hotel area of the South Zone and the Center of the capital.

Rock in Rio on Thursday

In addition to the Flamengo game , Thursday (19) will also feature Rock in Rio. The PM, however, guarantees that the Libertadores matches will not affect the security planning of the event, which runs until this Sunday (22). One of Flamengo's main players in 2024, Gerson has been fundamental under Tite's command. Last Sunday (15), in a 1-1 draw with Vasco, the midfielder scored Rubro-Negro's goal and stood out once again. This year, Gerson leads the list of Serie A athletes with the most minutes on the field since returning from surgery at the beginning of the season.

In March 2024, Gerson underwent kidney surgery due to hydronephrosis, a problem kidney that kept him away from Flamengo for around a month and a half. Since his return, the athlete has participated in all 37 Flamengo matches, in addition to two more for the Brazilian National Team.

Top-5 Serie A Athletes with the Most Minutes (After Gerson's Return):< /b>

1. Gerson (Flamengo) – 3246 minutes

2. Marcos Felipe (Bahia) – 3108 minutes

3. Fabrício Bruno (Flamengo) – 3077 minutes

4. Weverton (Palmeiras) – 3028 minutes

5. Agustín Rossi (Flamengo) – 3020 minutes

Of Flamengo's 37 games since the medical problem, Gerson started 32. The midfielder was a substitute in the first three matches of the Brasileirão, while he regained his rhythm after surgery, and was also on the bench in the duel against Botafogo, after playing 90 minutes against Bolívar (BOL) at altitude, in the group stage of the Libertadores.

After that, Gerson started 21 consecutive matches as a starter. He returned to the bench only in the game against São Paulo, in the second round of the Brasileirão return, when Tite opted for an alternative team. Gerson entered the final part of that match.

Next Appointment

With Gerson available, Flamengo is preparing for the quarter-finals of the Libertadores. Fla will face Peñarol (URU) this Thursday (19), at 7pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. The return game is scheduled for September 26th, at the same time, at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium, in Montevideo.
