The Libertadores 2023 final is approaching and Flamengo failed to be among the finalists of the continental knockout tournament. However, with an eye on next season, Rubro-Negro is paying attention to the location of the new decision. This is because the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) suggested to Conmebol that the United States be the host of South America's main competition in 2024.

According to information from journalist Rodrigo Mattos, from 'UOL Esporte', the CBF decided not to bid to host the Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana final in the next edition. Therefore, the Brazilian entity sent a document to Conmebol, suggesting that the decision take place in the USA.

SUGGESTION FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE CBF

The president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, argued that the final of Libertadores in the USA would increase financial income. In other words, the remuneration of national federations would also increase. Furthermore, it would take advantage of the growth of football in the country, as it will host the World Cup in 2026.

Finally, Ednaldo Rodrigues' suggestion also mentions that Conmebol will already hold the Copa América in the USA in 2024 , which would facilitate the process of the Libertadores final. However, Alejandro Dominguez, president of Conmebol, signaled that it is necessary to give a chance to other South American countries that have not yet received the decision, such as Argentina.

FLAMENGO AND MARACANÃ

Due to the Libertadores final at Maracanã, on November 4th, the CBF postponed the game between Flamengo and Bragantino, as the Rio stadium will need to be closed days before the decision for care. In addition to the match against the team from Bragança Paulista, Rubro-Negro changed the location of the duel with Santos.

Therefore, Flamengo will send the game against Santos to Brasília. The match against the São Paulo team is Rubro-Negro's next commitment. On Wednesday (01), the teams will meet at 8pm (Brasília time), at Mané Garrincha.

This Sunday (22), Flamengo travels to Porto Alegre to face Grêmio in the 27th round of the Brasileirão. The Rio Grande do Sul tricolor will not have Renato Gaúcho in charge on the edge of the field. Assistant Marcelo Salles, known as "Fera", who had a spell at Flamengo in 2019, will be the replacement, as the coach is suspended.

Marcelo Salles took charge of Flamengo after Abel's departure Braga and the arrival of Jorge Jesus, in 2019. Now, he will have the opportunity to face the Rio club due to the punishment of Renato Portaluppi, who is serving the second of four suspension matches imposed by the STJD (Supreme Court of Sports Justice).< /p>

In addition, Renato's technical assistant, Alexandre Mendes, was removed from Grêmio on suspicion of involvement in a case of domestic violence. Mendes, who led the team in the last match against Red Bull Bragantino, last Sunday (15), will be replaced by Marcelo Salles, who will have James Freitas as technical assistant.

Passage of Marcelo Salles for Flamengo

In 2019, Marcelo Salles led Flamengo in four matches, obtaining three wins (against Fortaleza, Corinthians and CSA) and one draw (against Fluminense). He left the club in 2020, during the pandemic, and was invited by Renato Gaúcho, the following year, to join his technical committee. "Fera" returned to Mais Querido during Renato's time at the club in 2021.

Salles was also part of Mengão's technical committee in winning the sixth Brazilian championship in 2009, under the command of Andrade. Grêmio and Flamengo face each other at 6:30 pm this Sunday (22). Mengão occupies fourth place in the championship, with 45 points, while Grêmio is in 14th place, with 28 points.

O Diário Olé, Argentina's main sports newspaper, reported on its social networks that the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has already decided on the venue for the Copa Libertadores de América final. According to the publication, the game will take place at the recently renovated Monumental de Nuñez, River Plate's stadium. The entity has not yet officially commented.

The Copa Libertadores 2024 final is scheduled for November 30th, a Saturday. It will be the sixth unique final of the competition since the model was adopted in 2019. The Monumental de Nuñez has undergone extensive renovation in recent years and has become the stadium with the largest audience capacity on the South American continent. The River Plate field holds 85 thousand people.

Conmebol established the only final of its continental cups in 2019. In the case of the Libertadores, the finals were held in Lima (2019), Rio de Janeiro (2020 ), Montevideo (2021), Guayaquil (2022), Rio de Janeiro (2023). The Argentine capital has been the favorite since before the start of the current edition of the Libertadores. Conmebol announced that the Libertadores final would be in Buenos Aires, but did not say which stadium.

River Plate could play the final at home in 2024

River Plate can play the Libertadores 2024 final at home. The Buenos Aires club spent more than US$45 million to expand the stadium's capacity and modernize the facilities. The main change was the closer proximity of the public to the playing field. The renovation created new areas for fans on the sides and behind the goals.

If they reach the final, River Plate will be the first club to play the only Libertadores final in their own stadium. Fluminense was champion in 2023 at Maracanã, but the Rio tricolor is only the administrator of the public stadium.
