Recently, Flamengo was in advanced negotiations with Atalanta, from Italy, for the transfer of right-back Wesley . However, surprising the red and black board, the Italian club chose to withdraw from the agreement in the final moments of the talks, leaving the 20-year-old player on the Rio team.
After the outcome of the negotiations, Flamengo acted quickly to guarantee Wesley's stay. The club renewed the winger's contract until the end of 2028, increasing the termination fine to 200 million euros (around R$1.1 billion). The renewal demonstrates the confidence that Flamengo places in the young player, who is seen as a key piece for the club's future and a possible member of the Brazilian National Team.
“We really believe in Wesley's potential. He helped us and will continue to help us. We believe that in the future he will be part of the Brazilian team and will contribute a lot to Flamengo”, said Spindel, reinforcing the full-back’s importance for the team.
FLAMENGO RESPONDS FIRMLY
Faced with Atalanta's unexpected withdrawal, Bruno Spindel, Flamengo's football director, sent a strong message to the European club, reinforcing the position and the principles of the Brazilian team. During the CBF draw, Spindel made it clear that Flamengo does not accept its players leaving without a formalized contract.
“Flamengo is not an amateur club. No Flamengo player will leave without a signed contract. We are a great Brazilian club, with international standards. If they think we are joking, they are mistaken. No Flamengo player embarks without a contract approved and signed by all parties”, declared Spindel, highlighting the seriousness with which the club conducts its transactions.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm.
