Without Pedro in 2024, Flamengo will have to deal with changes in attack, both in terms of names and of playing style. Mengão's number 9 is considered one of the best, if not the best, center forward in South America. Finding a suitable replacement, especially with the transfer window closing, is a difficult task that leaves coach Tite with a puzzle to be resolved.

Previously, Flamengo's offensive scheme depended heavily on the approach of Arrascaeta and De La Cross with Pedro. However, after the striker's first injury, which sidelined him for four games, this dynamic needed to be changed. During this period without the center forward, Luiz Araújo assumed a prominent role, with infiltration plays and long-distance shots, but without being able to increase the team's offensive performance.

Now, with the need to populate more the opponent's area, it is expected that Flamengo's attack will adopt a different movement. This could lead to a more active participation by Arrascaeta and De La Cruz, who should infiltrate the opponent's area more, also contributing with goals.

Flamengo should not find an ideal replacement for PedroAlthough vice-president of football, Marcos Braz, stated that the club trusts the players already in the squad to replace Pedro, Flamengo continues to keep an eye on the market since learning of the center forward's injury during his call-up to the Brazilian national team.

With the transfer window closed, the options are limited to players without a contract. The board's priority is to find a renowned reinforcement, with experience in European football. Some names were considered, such as Depay, who ended up signing with Corinthians, and Anthony Martial, who demanded high prices. However, none of them have characteristics similar to Pedro's.

Given these difficulties, the expectation is that, if no new name emerges, Flamengo will bet on the new style of play and on the athletes already present in the squad to compensate for Pedro's absence.

The biggest Flamengo's rout over Vasco in its entire history, 6-1, this Sunday (2), gives the club the leadership of the best attack in the Brasileirão in the era of straight points. Never relegated, Mengão reached 1182 total goals in 22 two editions (2003 to 2024) and isolated themselves at the top of the list by overtaking Santos.

The only team in Serie A that can compete for the lead with Flamengo is currently São Paulo, which has also never been relegated and has scored 1173 goals. Santos, who fell for the first time in their history, goes to second place and should take third place soon.

See the top 12 on the list:

Flamengo- 1182 goals

Santos - 1178

São Paulo- 1173

Atlético-MG- 1141

Fluminense- 1107

Palmeiras- 1082

< p>Internacional- 1047

Athletico-PR- 1042

Grêmio- 1023

Cruzeiro- 1021

Corinthians- 1002

Botafogo- 889

Remembering that the relegation of Santos made the brand was already practically a certainty, but there was an expectation of leadership regardless of the situation of the São Paulo team. This is because Flamengo's goal average in recent editions of the Brasileirão is very high. The historic defeat of Vasco, therefore, accelerated the process.

The team scored, on average, 68 goals in the last five editions of the championship, highlighting the record 86 in 2019. The goal average per game, therefore, it is 1.7. In 2024, the team has 13 goals in the first seven games and an average of 1.8.

Flamengo's top scorers in the history of the Brasileirão

Historic victory over Vasco also updates Flamengo's list of top scorers in the history of the Brasileirão. The quartet Gabigol, Pedro, Bruno Henrique and Arrascaeta are the athletes present in the top-10 who scored a goal in the classic.

Pedro and Bruno Henrique continue to compete for third place, Arrascaeta ties with Petkovic and Gabigol remains isolated in the second place. Everyone is behind leader Zico, who has 135 goals with Manto in Brazilians. Check out the list:

Zico – 135 goals

Gabigol – 68 goals
