Flamengo, Fluminense and Palmeiras have joined forces and are lobbying to be considered top seeds in the Super World Cup 2025. The trio's argument is based on the premise that, if the Champions League champions have this privilege, the winners of the Libertadores should also enjoy the same condition.

The president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, has already started conversations with the clubs and committed to forwarding the request to FIFA. Football's highest governing body informed its members that the draw for the Super Club World Cup groups will take place between June and July 2024, one year before the competition.

Initially scheduled to take place only in December this year, the new format of the tournament will feature 32 participants and will have its first edition in the United States, from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

Among the 32 participants, 21 are already guaranteed. Of the six representatives from South America, Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense stand out as champions of the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Libertadores, respectively. The other participants include clubs from Europe, North and Central America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

BILLIONAIRE REVENUES FOR PARTICIPANTS

FIFA management projects revenue of US$2.5 billion (R$12.4 billion) for the new Club World Cup. The tournament will be quadrennial and will have 32 participants. The clubs will be divided into eight groups of four teams, with the top two from each going through to the round of 16, and from then on the clashes will be eliminatory, until the final.
