According to information gathered by journalist Julio Miguel Neto , Flamengo will not give up receiving R$40 million in compensation for the player's contract termination. The amount is related to a clause on image rights included in the most recent renewal of the contract between the parties.
The rule is clear: if the termination occurs without just cause — that is, at the player's request — the amount must be paid to the club . This amount is separate from the €25 million (R$159 million, at the current exchange rate) already offered by Zenit in the main proposal. The demand surprised the Russians and created a point of tension that could stall the deal.
Behind the scenes, Flamengo no longer sees Gerson as essential. After episodes of internal wear and tear and a drop in performance, the club understands that it is time to end the cycle, as long as the contractual terms are strictly respected. On the player's side, the strategy is to pressure the Russians to absorb this additional cost as well.
Gerson does not want to pay the R$40 million out of his own pocket and has been insisting that Zenit's directors include the amount in the negotiation . So far, however, the European club's response has not been encouraging. Zenit understands that the offer of €25 million already represents a considerable effort and does not plan to extend the investment due to the player's individual contractual issues.
Italians present an offer of 35 million euros for Rodrigo Muniz, and the former Brazilian club could profit more than R$68 million from the deal.
