FLAMENGO IS ONE YEAR AFTER CELEBRATING THEIR LAST LIBERTADORES IN THE WORST SEASON OF THE DECADE

1 year ago, Flamengo were champions of the Libertadores for the third time in history. Since then, there have been 365 days without a single title won by Fla.

Exactly one year ago, my red-black heart was beating strong with joy. It was Flamengo winning the Libertadores for the third time in history, with Gabigol filling the Athletico-PR net in Guayaquil, Ecuador, guaranteeing the 1-0 victory and the much-desired third championship. This sweet memory marked Flamengo's last title, which now finds itself immersed in a period of scarcity of achievements, in the midst of a 2023 that, so far, has been marked by disappointments.

Flamengo started the year with the expectation of shining in seven competitions, but the reality has been quite different. The team was runner-up in four of them: in Carioca, in the Copa do Brasil, in the Supercopa do Brasil and in the Recopa Sul-Americana. In the Club World Cup, hopes ended in the semi-final. In Conmebol Libertadores, the team fell prematurely in the round of 16. The last ray of hope now resides in the Brasileirão, but Rubro-Negro is only in fifth place, nine points behind leader Botafogo, who has a game in hand and could open up a 12-point lead if they beat Cuiabá next Sunday.

This is the first drought that the "2019 Generation," made up of stars such as Gabigol, Bruno Henrique, Arrascaeta, Everton Ribeiro and others, is facing. With this cast of stars, Flamengo has celebrated 11 titles in the last four years: three Cariocas (2019, 2020 and 2021), two Libertadores (2019 and 2022), two Brazilian Championships (2019 and 2020), two Brazilian Super Cups (2020 and 2021), a Brazilian Cup (2022) and a South American Recopa (2020). However, the team is now reliving a period without titles that has not been experienced since 2018.

It is undeniable that 2023 has been an atypical year for Flamengo. The frustration is evident, and the players recognize the challenging situation they find themselves in. As Arrascaeta said after losing the Copa do Brasil final to São Paulo at Morumbi, "We know it's a very frustrating year for us. We're not used to it. We're used to lifting cups, so it's an atypical year and We have to raise our heads."

In a broader perspective, in the 23 years of this century to date, Flamengo has faced a period of drought equal to or greater on just six occasions. The worst of them was between Carioca's achievements in 2014 and 2017, with a fast of three years and 24 days. Between the 2001 and 2004 State Championships, Flamengo also came close to completing three seasons without a title, with a wait of two years, nine months and seven days.

Currently, Flamengo is outside the G -4 in the Brasileirão, after being overtaken by Grêmio. With 50 points in the table, the team still runs the risk of ending Sunday in sixth place, if Athletico-PR beats São Paulo at the Ligga Arena. The search for a direct place in the 2024 Libertadores continues, and Rubro-Negro will return to the field next Wednesday, facing Santos at 8pm (Brasília time) at Mané Garrincha, since Maracanã will be ceded to Conmebol for the Libertadores final.

Flamengo has not had a good run in the competitions it competes in and fans have lost patience with Tite. Thus, Anderson Macula, president of the organized fans Raça Rubro-Negra, demanded the dismissal of the coach and asked Filipe Luís to be hired as coach of the professional squad.

"Bitter Friday. A coach who doesn't has respect for the fans, who don't know what they're doing. With such a qualified squad, they can't get the team to play. Tite is so stupid that he can't see Léo Ortiz as a starter in Flamengo's midfield. the player who delivers the most in this squad. He starts the game with two midfielders, coming off an injury, with no rhythm in the game. Anyone on the edge of the field would opt for one or the other. Flamengo didn't have a midfielder. ", he said, before finishing:

"Léo Ortiz was his last option. to hire Filipe Luís. A very talented guy, who has the respect of the fans. Send Tite away and bring Gabigol to the squad. We have a game next week, which is the game of Flamengo's life", he concluded.

SITUATION MUST BE RESOLVED BY MARCOS BRAZ AND LANDIM

In addition to asking for Filipe Luís to be hired, Macula also demands that the Red and Black board of directors. According to the fan, Mais Querido's situation is in the hands of Marcos Braz and Rodolfo Landim.

"There's no point in coming to tell a story. . This creates a positive and light atmosphere to seek classification in Uruguay. So it's in the hands of Marcos Braz and Rodolfo Landim. Send Tite away, bring Filipe Luís in, take over as coach of the professional squad. We've already done it with Jayme and Andrade, so don't tell me it's premature. And take quick and effective action to save Flamengo's year", he concluded.

TITE WILL REMAIN IN POSITION

Even though many fans are calling for the departure of Tite, the coach will remain in his position. This is because the Red and Black board does not intend to fire him for now, as his contract ends on December 31st.
