Flamengo is famous for having great idols who marked its history throughout the victorious years. Among them, Leônidas da Silva, better known as "Black Diamond", stands out. This Friday (06), the club paid tribute to the striker, who was celebrating his birthday. On its social networks, Flamengo recalled the trajectory of the historic idol:

Leônidas da Silva played for Flamengo between 1936 and 1941. During this period, the "Black Diamond" scored 153 goals. times in 149 matches, maintaining an impressive average of over one goal per game and is the eighth highest scorer in the club's history. With the Sacred Mantle, he won the Rio de Janeiro Open Tournament in 1936, the Carioca Championship in 1939 and the Rio-São Paulo Tournament in 1940.


IMPORTANCE IN THE BRAZILIAN SELECTION

Leônidas da Silva played in two World Cups for the Brazilian team. The first was in 1934, when he scored Brazil's only goal in the competition, in a 3-1 defeat to Spain. His second appearance took place in 1938, in France, where he shone as the tournament's top scorer, with seven goals in four matches.


At that World Cup, the European press chose him as the best player. At the time, Leônidas was already wearing the Flamengo shirt. He did not participate in the 1942 and 1946 World Cups, which did not take place due to the Second World War.

Leônidas da Silva also stood out as the greatest scorer in the history of the Brazilian team in terms of average goals per match. In 37 games, he scored 37 goals, surpassing even Pelé, whose average was 0.77 goals per game.

Last Tuesday, the candidate for re-election for mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, denied the journalist Ancelmo Gois, from Globo. In a post on Instagram, the mayor informed that the city hall will be responsible for removing the megastructure on the gas meter site, different from what was reported. Furthermore, he guaranteed that Flamengo will have its new stadium, with the best conditions and security.

The news published by Ancelmo informs that Flamengo would have to pay R$100 million to remove a large gas structure present on land acquired by the club, which is owned by CEG and CEG-Rio, which are companies that are part of the gas concessionaire Naturgy.


According to the article, the companies were informed that Flamengo is the responsible for bearing the expenses, as provided for in one of the annexes to the land purchase and transfer contract. The clause, however, does not have a specified limit.


Eduardo Paes guarantees that the removal is the responsibility of Rio's city hall.

Paes stated that the values ​​for the transfer of the structure are different from what was pointed out in the article by Ancelmo Gois. Furthermore, it exempted Flamengo from any responsibility, and that the city hall has been planning to remove it for years.
