Flamengo's Under-20s have another big commitment this Wednesday (3/4), for the season with the calendar that has all the main competitions in the category. After reaching the semifinals of the Copinha, serving as a professional in the Campeonato Carioca, and winning the Libertadores, Mengão debuts against Goiás in the Brasileirão, in Goiânia, at 3:30 pm.

Current national champion after beating Palmeiras on penalties 3-2, after a 0-0 draw in normal time, Flamengo is looking for its third victory in the Brasileirão. In 2019 he also lifted the cup, against the same opponent, after scoring 3-0 at the Kleber Andrade stadium, in Cariacica.

Amidst the motto of training winning players, and fielding as many athletes as possible In the professional team, the U20 always comes strong in the national championship. Since 2018, the team has reached every semi-final of the competition. Coach Mario Jorge spoke about these milestones and the expectation for the debut in 2024.

MÁRIO TALKS ABOUT FLAMENGO'S DEBUT

“Zero weight for us. We want to be very careful about what we deliver. We have been showing this in recent years. We have a lot of changes in the cast. Many athletes have been promoted to the professional ranks, others are also traded and we continue to deliver impressive results in the category, see these last few years. In these 6 years we reached at least the semi-final of the Brazilian Championship, but then there is also the final of the Copa do Brasil, the final of the State Championship, Brazilian titles, and now the Libertadores title. And even so, Flamengo's base continues to place the athlete in the professional ranks with a very aligned training process, we continue to deliver a very competitive team in the under-20s and that is what we believe. That's what we're going to continue thinking about doing. In other words, there is zero pressure on us in the competition and we know our responsibility”, said Mario, who concluded by talking about preparation.

“Our preparation was good, we returned from Libertadores on 3/18, and we managed to recover some players who were very worn out from there. Unfortunately, we lost Caio to a muscle injury. But we promote some players. We have new athletes arriving, players that we recruited in the Copa São Paulo, players that our recruitment department also brought into the club. Ultimately, we achieved a greater balance for our team, while also promoting some boys. Rayan (Lucas) and Lorran are already training directly with the professional, as well as other boys. Lorran was even involved in the professional's Libertadores debut, and Rayan is with us here to play the first game. So, our preparation was smooth, the activities leading up to the game were also smooth. We managed to do some training here at the Atlético Goianiense training center to adjust some things in the game plan and let's see how the boys will do. Let's take advantage of their good moment and try to have a great game”, he added.

Goiás and Flamengo face each other at 3:30 pm at the Hailé Pinheiro stadium, in Goiânia. Flamengo fans will also be able to be present to support the Garotos do Ninho. The ticket is one kilo of non-perishable food. There will be no physical ticket, therefore, Flamengo fans must register for facial recognition on the website: atendimento.goiasec.com.br. The Nation's entrance will be through Gate 3. TV Goiás, on YouTube, broadcasts the game with images. Let's go Flamengo!

Flamengo continues to restructure its youth academy and has confirmed another new signing. The club has signed Botafogo star midfielder Marcelo Portela to bolster its under-15 squad . The youngster became famous after a viral move, when he pulled off a stunning dribble on Vini Jr., leaving the Real Madrid star sitting on the floor.

The incident took place in July 2024 , during a futsal game at Canto do Rio, in Niterói, where Vini took his first steps in football at the age of seven. On that occasion, Marcelo Portela not only outplayed the 2024 world player of the year, but also scored the goal in the sequence of the play .

Despite the dribble, Vini took it all in stride: he laughed at the play, congratulated the young talent, and even posed for photos with him after the match . Information about the club's new signing was initially reported by the FlaZoeiro and FlaBase pages.

TRAINING CONTRACT WITH FLAMENGO

Because he was born in 2010 and is not yet of legal age to sign a professional contract, Marcelo Portela signed a youth development contract with Flamengo . The agreement also provides for a division of rights with Botafogo, his previous club.

AND VINI JR?

While watching the incident with Marcelo Portela continue to resonate, Vini Jr. is enjoying some downtime. Suspended from the match against Chile and not called up by Carlo Ancelotti , the striker took advantage of his time off to relax in Marbella, Spain, where he was spotted cruising on a yacht.
