Flamengo took to the field on Tuesday night for two reasons: Ensure classification for the round of 16 of the Libertadores and present good football. In this sense, Tite's men are to be congratulated. This is because the red and black team thrashed Millonarios (COL) 3x0, with inspired striker Pedro, qualified and played one of the best matches of the season.

< /b>SUMMARY

Easy as taking candy from a child. Flamengo played a faultless first half, dominated from the first to the last minute and took a 3-0 lead without much effort - in fact, with quite a contribution from the Millonarios players. In the first goal, scored by Pedro, the defense dozed off, and the attacker just took advantage. And in the second, Vargas touched his own goal after Pedro's cross. To close the partial score, Viña passed a good ball to Pedro, who dominated and touched the corner.

In the second stage, the Rio team continued to advance, having chances to open the score at the beginning of the stage. Millonarios alone, with nothing left to lose, moved further forward, which left Fla with more field to play. However, time passed, the chances accumulated and with every minute remaining until the end of the match, the red and black team took their foot off waiting for the end of the match. At 43, Flamengo still had Bruno Henrique, who had entered less than 10 minutes ago, was sent off for a harsh tackle on the opponent.

In short, this is how the match ended with 3x0 for the most beloved team and guaranteed classification for the second phase.

And now?

How does the Bolívar also won his match, the red-black team from Rio finished the group stage in second place with 10 points and the Bolivian team in first, with 13. Therefore, the Gávea team goes to pot 2 of the draw, which will take place in next Monday.

After the Libertadores, Flamengo needs to turn the key to the Brazilian Championship. That's because Tite and his team have the classic against Vasco ahead of them. The match against Cruzmaltino takes place next Sunday (02), at 4pm, also at Maracanã. The red and black team is in third with 11 points, while their rivals are in 13th with 6.

Monday (30) began with the announcement of the dismissal of coach Tite from Flamengo, news expected after the elimination in the Libertadores and the team's poor performance, which generated increasing pressure among fans. The relationship with the fans is one of the aspects that made Zico, the greatest idol in red and black history, believe that the coach's departure was the most logical decision.

Zico held the 15th edition of Café com Zico in this Monday, at Bar do Zico, at Recreio dos Bandeirantes, an event where fans have the opportunity to spend the morning with their idol and ask questions. One of the questions was about Tite's dismissal. Despite praising the coach and regretting his departure, the eternal Shirt 10 recognized that the decision was correct.

“I think today it is easy to say that it should have been. The weather is no longer cool. Working in a place where people antagonize you and say a lot of things is not good for anyone. I'm sorry that happened, because I really liked him, I think he's a good coach. But perhaps he didn't adapt to Flamengo's style”, said Zico.

Although Zico recognized the unsatisfactory football presented by the team, he highlighted that Flamengo still remained alive in competitions. However, the fall in the Libertadores was a determining factor in the change, especially due to the defeat at home, which he compared to the elimination in 1982.

“Flamengo beat Carioca, they are in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil , he has a small chance at the Brazilian Championship and reached the quarterfinals of the Libertadores. Of course, the Maracanã defeat was decisive. He missed goals, more at Maracanã than there. It was the same thing that happened to us in 82. We massacred, in front of the goal every time, but we conceded a missing goal that didn't exist and we were eliminated”, said Galinho de Quintino in a video released by Essência Rubro-Negra.

Criticism of the Overvaluation of the Cast

Zico also criticized the overvaluation of the red and black cast, which he believes to be an exaggerated view, especially on the part of the board, who invests heavily in players who, in the idol’s opinion, are “common.” He was emphatic in stating that he does not share the idea that the squad is the best in South America.

“Flamengo, in my opinion, hired the wrong team. Many players. You're spending money on normal players. Are they good? Yes, but the price had to be great. They are not. They overvalued Flamengo's squad too much, they made the fans believe that it was the best team in South America. It's not! That's the problem. The fans think they will always win 3 or 4, but those of us who play ball know that the story is different”, added Gávea's eternal number 10.

“I would like to thank you for your loyalty, respect and partnership throughout these 12 months. Thank you, teacher and the entire coaching staff.

You made me take on the second biggest responsibility of my life – after becoming a father – by choosing me as captain of the team that I love. I will be eternally grateful.

I wish you a beautiful sequence of work. Thank you.”

Numbers at Flamengo

Tite and his coaching staff arrived at Flamengo on October 9, 2023, after the departure of Argentine Jorge Sampaoli. With a contract until the end of 2024, the former coach of the Brazilian team leaves his position three months ahead of schedule. During his tenure, he managed the team in 70 games, achieving 41 wins, 13 draws and 16 defeats, with a total of 109 goals scored and 50 conceded. Tite ends his time with the Carioca Championship title and a 64.7% success rate.

What now?

Now, Flamengo returns to the field under new management. Filipe Luís, an old acquaintance of Gerson, takes interim command in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil. This Wednesday (02), Fla will face Corinthians in the first game of the national knockout competition, with Filipe Luís on the sidelines.

The classic between Flamengo and Corinthians will take place at 9:45 pm ( Brasília time) at Maracanã.
