The rivalry between Vasco and Flamengo is one of the fiercest in Brazilian football
|
0In the history of the Brazilian Championship, Vasco da Gama has a record that its fans would prefer to forget: the club is the one that suffered the most defeats in the era of straight points. With a total of 38 crushing defeats, the Rio team sees this statistic worsen even more when they face their biggest rival, Flamengo. Of these 38 games, three were played by Rubro-Negro, increasing Vasco's rivalry and pain.
In 2019, Vasco suffered one of the most memorable defeats for its fans, losing 4-1 to Flamengo . The game, held at Maracanã, highlighted the technical and tactical superiority of Flamengo, who dominated the match from start to finish. Goals from Bruno Henrique (twice), Gabriel Barbosa and Arrascaeta guaranteed the victory for the red-black team. Vasco's only goal, scored by Talles Magno, was insufficient to change the outlook of the game.
FLAMENGO OPENS THE GAME AND GET THE "FOOT IN THE DOOR"
Four years later, in 2023, history repeated itself. Again at Maracanã, Vasco was defeated 4-1 by Flamengo. This time, the goals were scored by Pedro (twice), Éverton Ribeiro and Gabigol. Vasco's goal of honor came from Nenê's feet, but again, the Cruzmaltina team was unable to withstand the rival's pressure.
The most painful of the recent defeats came in 2024, when Vasco foi run over by Flamengo with a score of 6 to 1. The massacre further highlighted the discrepancy between the teams at that time. Pedro, Gabigol (three times), Gerson and Bruno Henrique scored for Flamengo. Vasco, despite all their efforts, only managed to score with a goal from Jair.

< p>Mengão finished his preparation for the clash against Athletico
|
0On Saturday afternoon (28), Flamengo held its last training session before facing Athletico-PR in the Brasileirão. A clash that could decide the future of coach Tite at Mengão, was attended by all the players considered to be starters, despite the expectation of a mixed team for Sunday (29).
In content published on social media of Flamengo, names like Bruno Henrique and Alex Sandro, who were starters in the Libertadores elimination, last Thursday (26), appear alongside young fledglings, such as Matheus Gonçalves and Evertton, who have been widely used in the “reserve team ” by Tite.
With his destiny becoming more uncertain at Flamengo, Tite may having led his last training session as coach of Rubro-Negro. There are four games without a win, a bad result, or poorly presented football against Athletico-PR, could mean the end of the line for the coach, just under a year after his arrival.
In the semi-finals of Copa do Brasil, where they face Corinthians, and in the G4 of the Brasileirão, Rubro-Negro's objective is clear, to become CdB champion, and remain in the classification zone for the next Libertadores in the points championship.
