This time, the Rio de Janeiro club released 18-year-old defender Pedro Lemos, who has already agreed to join Atlético-MG. The transfer was without immediate costs for the Minas Gerais team, but Rubro-Negro chose to keep part of the defender's economic rights.
According to information released by the "Flazoeiro" portal, the negotiation involved the free release of Pedro Lemos, with Flamengo keeping 50% of the youngster's economic rights . The agreement also provides that Atlético-MG can acquire another 10% of the player by paying R$500,000 to the Rio de Janeiro club , which could represent a future gain if the defender increases in value on the market.
Pedro Lemos arrived at Mais Querido in 2022, when he joined the under-17 squad. With good physical presence and game reading, he attracted attention in youth competitions and, this season, he played seven matches between the Copinha and the Copa Rio Under-20, scoring one goal. His performance earned him a 50 million euro release clause and a contract with the club until 2026.
Even with the recent release, the high-value contract clause indicates that Flamengo saw potential in Pedro Lemos. By keeping 50% of the rights, the club ensures participation in a possible future sale. This strategy is common when there is a prospect of the athlete's value increasing in other markets or clubs.
Pedro Lemos' departure comes at a time when the club has also lost important names in its professional squad.
