The answer is taking shape behind the scenes. After confirming the signing of Colombian Jorge Carrascal, the Rubro-Negro doesn't intend to stop there. Now, the club is preparing a new offensive to bring in another high-profile foreigner: Esequiel Barco, currently at Spartak Moscow.

According to the Euro Football portal, the red-black board has already presented a formal proposal to the Russian club: around 17 million euros, equivalent to R$110 million, for the signing of the Argentine striker.

A HEAVY INVESTMENT

This move shows that Flamengo is willing to invest heavily to further strengthen the squad in the fight for titles in 2025. The offer made for Esequiel Barco represents one of the largest investments in Flamengo's history in the international market.

SPARTAK OPENS THE GAME

The fee even exceeds Spartak's expectations, which initially asked for less. Sources close to the athlete indicate that Barco is open to the move. The player welcomes the possibility of playing in Brazilian football, especially for Flamengo, which has been competing for major titles and boasts continental visibility.

The investment is considered strategic: Flamengo 's goal is to strengthen its attacking sector and give coach Filipe Luís more options for the remainder of the year. Esequiel Barco is 25 years old and plays as an attacking midfielder. A product of Independiente in Argentina, he became known for his skill, speed, and ability to decide matches.

Argentine goalkeeper Agustín Rossi , who has played for Flamengo since 2023, is in the process of obtaining Brazilian citizenship, raising the possibility of playing for the Brazilian national team in the future. The situation raises questions about the player's eligibility and FIFA's rules for changing nationality.

If Rossi obtains naturalization, he would be eligible to represent Brazil under current sports legislation. The player has not yet played any official matches for the Argentine national team, which would prevent him from making the switch.

FIFA RULES ON CHANGE

In 2020, FIFA relaxed its rules for changing nationality, allowing athletes to play for national teams other than their home country, provided they meet certain criteria. A player can represent another country if, before the age of 21, he or she has played in a maximum of three official matches for the senior national team and has not competed in a World Cup.

ROSSI'S PARTICIPATION FOR ARGENTINA

Rossi was named in Argentina's official match against Bolivia in a 2022 World Cup qualifier in September 2021, but did not take the field. According to FIFA's governance and eligibility rules:

  • Participation requires the player to be on the field, even if for just a few seconds;
  • A player on the bench without entering the field does not count as participation;
  • A call without a list of related parties also does not constitute participation.
