FLAMENGO WANTS TO MAINTAIN OVER 20 YEARS HISTORY AGAINST CRICIÚMA

Flamengo plays again this Saturday (20), against Criciúma, at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília, for the Brazilian Championship. Against the Santa Catarina team, the red-black club has not lost since 2003. In other words, Mais Querido has an unbeaten run of 21 years.

This is because the last time Flamengo was beaten by Criciúma was exactly on the 20th of July 2003, at the Heriberto Hulse Stadium, in Santa Catarina. On that occasion, Mengo lost 4-3, in a duel valid for the Brazilian Championship.

After the defeat in 2003, Flamengo faced Criciúma on seven other occasions. However, Mengão emerged victorious in five matches and drew two. During this period, the Rio club has an 81% success rate. Finally, it is worth highlighting that the last time they faced each other was ten years ago, in 2014.

CURRENT SITUATION

Flamengo last played on Thursday (11), against Fortaleza. However, the negative 2-1 result had consequences for the team led by coach Tite. Mengo fell from first to third place, parking at 31 points. Botafogo and Palmeiras took the lead, and both have 33.

On the other hand, Criciúma also failed to win in the last round. On that occasion, the Santa Catarina team drew 1-1 with Fluminense, playing in front of the fans. It is worth mentioning that the Santa Catarina team conceded the goal in the 44th minute of the second half.

The Peñarol team arrived in Rio de Janeiro in the early hours of Wednesday (18) for the game against Flamengo in the Libertadores. Before the clash at Maracanã, defender Guzmán Rodríguez sent a message to Mais Querido and highlighted the strength of the Uruguayans.

“We are doing quite well collectively and individually”, said defender Guzmán Rodríguez, to be asked about Peñarol's moment in the season. 


FLIGHT DELAY TO RIO DE JANEIRO

It is worth mentioning that Peñarol had a setback upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro. This is because the Uruguayan flight was scheduled to arrive at 7pm this past Tuesday (17). However, with delay, the players disembarked at the end of the day.

“The plan was to arrive two days early precisely for this reason, to have time to rest”, said Ignacio Ruglio, president of the Montevideo team.< /p>

The Peñarol (URU) team was excited from the beginning of the trip to Rio de Janeiro, where they will face Flamengo, in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores. Peñarol reached the quarterfinals of the Libertadores after beating The Strongest (BOL) in the round of 16. In the first game, the Uruguayan team defeated their opponent 4-0. Before the game against Flamengo, Peñarol played in the Championship Uruguayan. On Saturday (14), Rubro-Negro's opponent beat Rampla (URU), by a score of 4 to 0. Given this situation, they remained undefeated in the national tournament.

Flamengo is coming off a bitter draw with Vasco on Sunday (15), however, they will have reinforcements for this Thursday's duel (19). Recovered from a thigh injury, De La Cruz is back in the team. In addition to the Uruguayan, Alex Sandro, Alcaraz and Gonzalo Plata were registered in the competition and, as a result, will be included in the clash.

The 11th round of the Brazilian Championship started positively for Flamengo.
