Flamengo published a new note about the fire at Ninho do Urubu. This Saturday (10), the club countered charges regarding the alleged return of the boys from the base to the containers after new facilities had been delivered. Former red-black president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello is one of those who endorse the complaint.

In the note, Flamengo says that it never transferred young people from the youth categories to new facilities, in the professional football module . Therefore, the club claims that a possible return of the boys to the containers after delivery of new facilities is a lie.

SEE NOTE

“The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, in view of conclusions made about an alleged transfer of minors who lived in the containers, it is now public to declare that the athletes from the Flamengo base were never transferred to the old professional module, which today houses the base, before the tragic fire that occurred on 02/08/2019, at the George Helal Training Center.

Any allegation to the contrary is misleading and false.

Once again, we express our feelings to the families and make ourselves available to them.”

WHAT DID BANDEIRA DE MELLO SAY?

One of the former leaders who endorse the demand for answers about an alleged transfer of young people is Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, president until just under two months before the fire. One of the excerpts from the former president's note says the following:

“[…] 5 – I have already spoken out a few times about the tragedy and its consequences. I was no longer president of the club nor participated in its management since December 2018. We left two training centers and accommodation with a level of international excellence ready, finished and opened with extensive press coverage. During my management, the boys at the base were already occupying the new facilities and there is plenty of supporting documentation about this.

6 – The causes of the fire in the housing modules that were used until November 2018 and which were once again occupied on the day of the tragedy, they are being investigated as part of the criminal process which, I repeat, is public […]”.
