After the injury of striker Pedro who will miss Flamengo until 2025, several businessmen from the football world began to offer attacking players to Mais Querido to make up for the absence of their number 9. According to journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, one of these names has already been discarded.
This is Cameroonian striker Eric Choupo-Moting. The player has been without a club since the end of his contract with Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/24 season. The 35-year-old has not played since May, when he entered the field in the last minutes of the German team's defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final. His advanced age was one of the main factors that kept him away from Rubro-Negro.

Last season was not the most notable of Choupo-Moting's career. Between Bayern Munich and the Cameroon national team, the striker participated in 35 matches, scored three goals and contributed three assists. Despite the initial denial, Mauro Cezar believes that the Cameroonian could help Mengão in the current circumstances.

He has the characteristics of a center forward, Flamengo lost this player with Pedro's injury and Carlinhos is a lower level athlete , and perhaps, due to his experience, shooting, important shirts he wore, big games he has played, Choupo-Moting could be a player to fill a gap”, declared Mauro Cezar.
Eric Maxim Choupo- Moting is 35 years old and has played for several clubs in his career. Born in Germany, with Cameroonian nationality, the striker started playing for St. Pauli, a club from Hamburg, Germany. He had spells at Hamburg, Nuremberg, Mainz, Schalke 04, Stoke City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
The teams play the first game of the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.

According to Mauro, the experienced Cameroonian center forward Choupo-Moting would be the ideal name to fill the number 9 role at Mengão. Choupo-Moting has been without a club since leaving Bayern Munich.

Mauro Cezar also mentioned that the absence of a player like Choupo-Moting was missed in the 1-1 draw against Vasco at Maracanã. Flamengo created several opportunities, but were unable to convert them into goals.
“The board should have agreed to talk to the Cameroonian striker, try to sign a contract until the middle of the year. He is a much cheaper player than Martial, who is injured, hasn't played since December and is not a boxer. He is a striker with other characteristics.
