In the last six games of the Flamengo in the Brazilian Championship, the instability in defense in aerial plays has been evident. Of the six clashes, the team only managed to escape goals from aerial balls in a single match, in the 2-0 victory against Atlético-GO. In the other games, Flamengo conceded goals in this type of play, showing a worrying vulnerability. The sequence of matches analyzed includes clashes against Fortaleza, Criciúma, Vitória, São Paulo and Palmeiras.

This data reinforces the need for tactical and defensive adjustments on the part of the team, which, despite having a quality squad, has demonstrated difficulties in dealing with crosses and set pieces, areas in which the team needs to evolve to ensure greater defensive solidity. This performance demonstrates that the team is allowing an average of almost one goal per game from aerial balls, which is a clear indication of a defensive problem to be resolved. For a team that aims for titles, it is crucial to correct this flaw, whether through specific training or adjustments in tactical formation during games.

FLAMENGO HAS A "HEADACHE" IN THE SEASON

The analysis of the matches also suggests that the vulnerability of Flamengo in aerial balls can be associated with several factors. One of them is the lack of synchronization between the defenders and the goalkeeper when attacking the ball in crosses. Furthermore, the team has shown difficulty in marking taller opponents or in dead ball situations, such as corners and lateral free kicks.

Another point that deserves attention is the defensive positioning when the ball is crossed in the area. On several occasions, Flamengo players were caught off guard, allowing opponents to get ahead or have the freedom to head in unchallenged. This can be attributed both to individual errors and to a failure in the defensive system as a whole.

Check it out:
