The Flamengo will need to recalculate its route in the ball market after the injuries to Everton Cebolinha and Matias Viña, who are out of the season. Still without signings, the club admits to looking for players for the sectors and may need to create a more robust market than expected. Even so, you cannot lose sight of your budget goals with sales.

Flamengo's priorities in the market may change. After losing Cebolinha and Viña, the club needed to get together to recalculate its route and rethink its focus in the transfer window. The club had midfield athletes as its main target. Marcos Antônio, Claudinho and Paquetá were the names sought so far. A winger was also under observation since the beginning of the year.

Fla may need to rethink sales or even change the direction of the money to be invested. The initial expectation was that this window would only be for adjustments and more discreet. Despite proposals with high values, the club did not intend to spend the same amount as at the beginning of the year.

Sales need to happen

Flamengo had five sales in 2024. Thiago Maia (Internacional) generated R$23.8 million, Santos (Fortaleza) R$4.850 million, Matheuzinho (Corinthians) R$21.8 million and André Luiz (Estrela da Amadora) gave R$2.7 million. These were the values already disclosed in the balance sheet. Werton completes the sale list of R$5.8 million that has not yet been released in this balance sheet.

None of these revenues have been computed so far. The club only stated in the first six months of the year that they occurred. The values do not include the R$395 million generated by football until June 30th. The total is around R$59 million. The approved budget for 2024 foresees R$114 million in athlete sales.

At the moment, Flamengo has two good proposals on the table. One from Atalanta for right-back Wesley for a fixed 15 million euros (R$90.88 million) plus 5 million euros (R$30.29 million) in bonuses and another from Rennes for defender Fabrício Bruno for 14 million euros (R$ 85.7 million), of which 12.5 million euros are fixed and another 1.5 million euros in bonuses.

Hammer hit! Flamengo should no longer go to the market for players this window - Says journalist

In recent days, Flamengo's board decided not to move forward in the search for a replacement for Pedro, who is injured. Although the possibility of signing a new striker was considered, the idea lost strength and, now, the club is inclined to maintain the current squad without looking for a replacement on the market.

The scenario began to change when the Flamengo received several offers from players to make up for Pedro's absence. Clubs and businesspeople saw the attacker's injury as an opportunity to present names to Rubro-Negro, hoping that the board would choose to bring a new player to the attack. However, the club was not excited about the options offered.

The main reason for the decision not to go to the market is related to the high investment that would be necessary to bring in a quality player compatible with the current squad. . Flamengo has already made major signings in recent years and, given the financial conditions and strategic planning, the club considers that a new major investment is not viable at this time.

Another factor that weighed on the decision was the restricted market. In this transfer window, the options for attackers who could really add to the team are limited. Many of the players offered do not meet the technical standards required by the coaching staff and the board. Furthermore, Flamengo understands that bringing an athlete who is not 100% physically or in full shape could be more harmful than beneficial, considering the demands of the season.

The physical conditions of potential competitors Internals also influenced the choice. Flamengo's current squad has other attackers who can take on the position of Pedro during his absence, and the coaching staff trusts that these players have the ability to maintain the team's level of competitiveness. The understanding is that betting on athletes already integrated into the squad can be a more practical and effective solution, avoiding the need to adapt a new player at a crucial moment of the season.
