The Flamengo faces a difficult mission this Thursday, at 7pm (Brasília time), at the Campeón del Siglo stadium, in Uruguay. To advance to the Conmebol Libertadores semi-finals, the Rio club needs to do something it has never managed to do: reverse a disadvantage away from home in knockout tournaments, with the exception of the Campeonato Carioca. This is the only alternative to keep the dream of a fourth championship in the competition alive.
After losing 1-0 to Peñarol at Maracanã, Flamengo needs to win by two goals to guarantee a direct place, without depend on other results. A victory by just one goal takes the decision to penalties. Any other score eliminates Tite's team from the tournament. Historically, the numbers are not in favor of Rubro-Negro. According to a survey carried out by Guilherme Marçal and Roberto Maleson, from Espião Estatístico do ge, Flamengo has already played 12 knockout matches in which they came up behind in the first game and, in 10 of them, they ended up eliminated. The other two resulted in runner-up finishes, highlighting the club's difficulty in reversing adverse results away from home.
THE CLUB GOES AFTER THE SEARCH FOR THE RESULTS
Despite this, there are examples of reactions that show that Flamengo can, indeed, overcome itself. On two of these 12 occasions, the team won the return game away from home, but not by the score necessary to advance. This history, although unfavorable, demonstrates that the team has the capacity to react, but that the combination of score and performance still needs to be right to guarantee classification. The current context is even more challenging, considering the team's unstable phase and criticism of the lack of defensive consistency. Flamengo they will have to prove more solid and effective in defense to avoid conceding goals that could further complicate the mission. At the same time, the attack needs to be more productive and take better advantage of chances, since, to advance, scoring at least two goals is a mandatory requirement.
Coach Tite is also under pressure. Since he took charge, the Argentine has not yet managed to implement a convincing style of play, and the team's fluctuations are worrying. Early elimination in the Libertadores would be a serious blow to the season's planning and could lead to changes in the coaching staff.
The player would not have a place with coach Filipe Luís and, after a failed attempt to negotiate with the Portuguese team, he will be a Peixe player.

Midfielder Victor Hugo was officially announced as a reinforcement for Santos this Tuesday (02). With no space at Flamengo, the player signed a loan contract valid until July 2026. The agreement does not provide a purchase option, but guarantees the São Paulo club the right of preference in the event of a future negotiation.
Victor Hugo on loan from Flamengo to Santos: "It's a dream come true"
According to information from journalist Venê Casagrande, if Flamengo receives offers for the athlete during the loan period, Peixe will have priority to match any offer, a similar case to Jean Lucas' loan in 2019.
Excited about the opportunity, Victor Hugo spoke for the first time as a Santos player and highlighted the chance to play alongside Neymar, an idol from Vila Belmiro: " I'm so happy and eager to play and train . It's a dream come true. I've been watching Neymar at Santos since I started watching football; he was the player who made me fall in love with the sport. It's an honor to play with him; I'm sure it will work out great," the midfielder told the club's official website.
The Nest Boy also highlighted the immediate affection he's received from the Santos fans: " It's been incredible. I've already received so many messages on Instagram, and I'm so happy . I went to the last game at Vila and I can't wait to be on the field to bring joy to these fans. I'm so excited and hope to help as much as possible," he added.
At Santos, Victor Hugo will have the opportunity to play more minutes, unlike the situation he has faced at Flamengo in recent months. The midfielder arrives to bolster the team's fight against relegation , as the team sits 16th in the Brazilian Championship with 22 points from 21 matches.

Joshua, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder , has been attracting attention after excelling in the U-20 Libertadores , the tournament that secured Flamengo a spot in the U-20 World Cup. In the final against Barcelona (ESP), the youngster started. Since then, he has been scouted by European clubs.
Despite the international pressure, the club has no intention of negotiating the player at this time . According to journalist Venê Casagrande, the board's decision is linked to the player's gradual development plan in Brazil.
Flamengo renewed Joshua's contract until 2029 and stipulated a €50 million (approximately R$318 million) release clause . The contract reinforces the club's confidence in the midfielder's potential, as he is already a regular participant in the professional team's activities under Filipe Luís.
So far, Joshua has only made one appearance for the main squad: a late substitute against Botafogo-PB in the Copa do Brasil, totaling 11 minutes of action . However, he has a longer run of appearances with the under-20s. He has played 16 matches, starting 12 of them, demonstrating the club's commitment to giving him a run-in without rushing his final transition.
With Joshua available, the team returns to action on September 14th against Juventude at 4 pm (Brasília time) at Alfredo Jaconi Stadium in Caxias do Sul , for the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. Flamengo is looking to end a long winless streak at the Jaconero stadium. The last time they won there was on October 1st, 1997, when the score ended 1-0 to Juventude, thanks to an own goal by Rodrigo Costa.
