Flamengo lost 1-0 to Bolívar last Thursday (22) in the altitude of La Paz in the second leg of the round of 16. However, despite the defeat, Rubro-Negro secured their place in the next phase of the competition due to the 2-0 result in the first leg at Maracanã. However, even though classified, the scenario alarmed a negative mark for Mais Querido in the international tournament. Bitter fast in the Libertadores

Despite the classification last Thursday- fair (22) against Bolívar, Flamengo further increased a bitter taboo that they have been carrying in the Libertadores. This is because, once again, Rubro-Negro failed to win away from home in the competition, a fact that has not happened since 2022.

The last away victory in the Libertadores was in the 2022 semi-final, the year in who was three-time champion. On that occasion, Flamengo beat Vélez 4-0, guaranteeing their place in the decision. Since then, there have been eight away games and none of them won.

See the list of Flamengo away games in the Libertadores:

Aucas (EQU) 2 x 1 Flamengo – 2023

Racing (ARG) 1 x 1 Flamengo – 2023

Ñublense (CHI) 1 x 1 Flamengo – 2023

Olimpia (PAR) 3 x 1 Flamengo – 2023

Millonarios (COL) 1 x 1 Flamengo – 2024

Bolívar (BOL) 2 x 1 Flamengo – 2024

Palestino (CHI) 1 x 0 Flamengo – 2024

Bolívar (BOL) 1 x 0 Flamengo – 2024

Next opponent in the competition

Flamengo entered the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores de América, by eliminating Bolívar (BOL), this Thursday (22), at the Hernando Siles Stadium, at an altitude of 3640 meters in La Paz. Now, the Rubro-Negro faces Peñarol, from Uruguay, in the next phase.

Having finished the group stage with a lower score than Peñarol, Flamengo will have to define a place again from home, at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium, in Montevideo. In other words, the first leg of the quarter-finals takes place at Maracanã.

Flamengo's next match

Before returning to play for the Libertadores, Flamengo has other commitments. The first of which is next Sunday (25), at Maracanã, when Mengão faces Bragantino, in the 24th round of the Brazilian Championship. It is worth remembering that the team currently occupies fourth place in the competition, with 41 points. In other words, you need to win to climb back up the leaderboard.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores. Follow the Red and Black lineup:Rossi, Varela, Fabrício Bruno, Léo Pereira and Alex Sandro; Pulgar, De la Cruz, Gerson and Arrascaeta; Plata and Bruno Henrique.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. Check it out:

"The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."

Grêmio and Flamengo if face each other, this Sunday (22), in the 27th round of the Brasileirão. While Rubro-Negro is focusing on the Libertadores, the tricolor from Rio Grande do Sul is preparing to face Mais Querido. For the match at Arena do Grêmio, at 6:30 pm, Renato Portaluppi's team must have a new defense duo; Kannemann and Jemerson.

The two players have already played together on two occasions, against Fluminense, in the round of 16 match of the Libertadores, and against Vasco, in the Brasileirão. However, Grêmio played in a tactical scheme with three defenders, with Rodrigo Ely completing the defensive trio. The defender must be absent after an injury suffered at the beginning of the month. Kannemann returns to the team after serving his suspension.

Gustavo Martins also returns for the same reason, and should remain on the bench. Natã, Geromel and former Flamengo player Rodrigo Caio are also defensive options for the team from Rio Grande do Sul.

Renato Gaúcho will not be present in the clash between Grêmio and Flamengo

Grêmio coach, Renato Gaúcho, will not be on the side of the pitch for the game against Flamengo. This is because the coach was punished with a four-match suspension, after leaving the field before the final whistle, in the 4th round of the Brazilian Championship, against Bahia. The sentence was even greater, as Renato ordered the players to repeat the action.

With this, the assistant, Alexandre Mendes, will be in charge of the team against Rubro-Negro. In the first round, Flamengo won 2-1, with two goals from Luiz Araújo, in June. Mengão was leading the competition. Currently, Rubro-Negro occupies fourth place, with 44 points in 24 matches. The team from Rio Grande do Sul is 15th, with 27 points from 23 games.
