Flamengo takes to the field this Thursday (15), in a game against LDU. However, already thinking about the next round of the Brasileirão, the CBF defined that the referee who will whistle the classic against Botafogo, on Sunday (18) will be Bruno Arleu de Araújo , a judge who has already participated in controversy with Rubro-Negro.

This Wednesday (14), the CBF defined that Bruno Arleu de Araújo, a 42-year-old referee and member of the FIFA team, will referee the classic between Flamengo x Botafogo, next Sunday (18), at 6:30 pm, at Maracanã.

REFEREE INVOLVED IN CONTROVERSY AGAINST FLAMENGO

It is worth remembering that Bruno Arleu refereed the classic between Flamengo x Fluminense in the final of the Campeonato Carioca this year , being criticized by both fans.

The main complaint from the red-and-black fans regarding the referee in the match against Fluminense came after a tackle by midfielder Otávio on De La Cruz. Even though the number 18 was hit above the line of his boot, Bruno Arleu only showed a yellow card.

Furthermore, at the end of the match, Flamengo opened the scoring with Plata, but the VAR recommended a review of the play and the referee decided to cancel the play, pointing out a foul by Juninho on Ignacio. However, experts pointed out that the attacker's movement was not a foul.

FOCUS ON THE NEXT GAMES

Bruno Arleu also refereed Botafogo's 4-1 win over Flamengo in the 2024 Brasileirão. Since then, the professional has not worked on the team's games in the Brasileirão, returning to meet Rubro-Negro this Sunday (18).

Before that, Flamengo will focus its attention on the Libertadores. The Mais Querido will face LDU this Thursday (15), in a game valid for the fifth round of the group stage of the competition, where it needs to win to qualify for the round of 16.
