Flamengo defeated Botafogo 2-1 in a match valid for the 19th round of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. The clash, held this Wednesday, July 24th, featured young Lorran, who scored one of the goals of the red-black comeback.
The first half was marked by an intense and disputed game. Early on, Fabiano opened the scoring for Botafogo in a quick counterattack. From then on, the opponent adopted a more defensive posture, making Flamengo's attacks difficult. The Gávea team tried to react with Shola and Lorran, but found it difficult to overcome the rival defense and goalkeeper Cristiano Júnior.
Despite being set back, Botafogo did not fail to create opportunities and forced goalkeeper Dyogo Alves to make good defenses. The first half of the game ended with the score in favor of the black and white team.
After the break, Flamengo returned more organized and determined. Coach Filipe Luís adjusted the strategy, focusing on Lorran's offensive plays. In the 9th minute, the young striker started at speed, dribbled past two markers and finished with precision, tying the game.
Flamengo continued to press and, in a rehearsed move, Zé Welinton scored the turning goal. The full-back executed a perfect free kick, sending the ball into the left corner of the opponent's goal, repeating the feat from the last meeting between the teams.
Lorran's outstanding performance caught the attention of the coach of the Brazilian U-20 team, Ramon Menezes, who was present at the stadium. Lorran, who had already been called up to the national team, should continue to be one of Menezes' bets. Another player who has also been on the coach's list is midfielder Rayan Lucas.
With the victory, Flamengo reaches 23 points and remains in seventh place in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. The team guarantees a place in the classification zone (G8) and is now hoping for Santos and Ceará to stumble to climb the table.

After being removed from the list of related players for the clash against Vitória, in the professional Brasileirão, Lorran will reinforce the under-20 team in the classic against Botafogo in the category competition this Wednesday (24).

However, conversations between Rubro-Negro and the midfielder's representatives remain difficult. According to information from journalist Venê Casagrande, it is certain that the new agreement will not be signed this week. This is because Flamengo wants a commitment until 2029, increasing the termination fine, which is currently 50 million euros (R$ 296.5 million).

Papa Diop at Flamengo under-10 is a clear example of how the Rio club is preparing for the future

In the world of football, the search for new talent is incessant, and Flamengo has invested heavily in the youth categories to discover future stars. Recently, the Rio club drew attention by incorporating young African promises into its youth teams. Two Nigerians, Shola and Hassan, are already part of the under-20 team, and now a Senegalese is emerging in the under-10.
According to Ge, Papa Diop, a Senegalese boy of just 10 years old, has stood out in the IberCup, a grassroots tournament held in Barra da Tijuca, Zona West of Rio de Janeiro. The young player, who measures an impressive 1.76m tall, arrived in Brazil in 2023 together with his father. They settled in Florianópolis, where Papa started playing on a social project team.
Papa's trajectory in Brazil He's new, but his football skills are already attracting attention. He began to emerge on the national scene when he played in the Santa Catarina IberLeague, in Florianópolis, last year. Even though he was only nine years old, he played in the under-12 category, facing boys three years older.
Abrão Chehadi, IberLeague licensee from Santa Catarina, was responsible for recommending Papa Diop to Flamengo. According to Chehadi, the age difference and the boy's skill caught the attention of the Rio club's technical observers. "The Pope was with us last year competing in the IberLeague of Santa Catarina, in Florianópolis. He was nine years old, but was playing in the category of three years over, in the under-12. For this reason, we recommended it to the technical observer of Flamengo present in the competition, which immediately brought him already approved for Rio de Janeiro. He is a promise for international football, as he is African and also has a European passport", said Chehadi.
