A fundamental piece in coach Tite's scheme at Flamengo, Gerson faced a difficult time this year, when he had to step away to treat hydronephrosis, which required surgical intervention. However, as the saying goes "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", the 'Joker' came back even stronger. Since the surgery, the midfielder has participated in all available games, whether for Rubro-Negro or the Brazilian team.

Impressively, Gerson was on the field for 83% of the possible minutes between Flamengo and Selection. This means that he played 38 consecutive matches — 36 for Flamengo and 2 for Brazil —, totaling 3,420 minutes, of which he played 2,835.

At a time when Flamengo faces physical exhaustion and several injuries, Gerson seems immune to these problems, remaining in excellent physical shape and with an extraordinary performance, which justified his call-up to the Brazilian team.

Gerson's numbers in the impressive sequence of minutes on the field

Despite having undergone surgery, Gerson did not lose his consistency. Even with the marathon of games, the number 8's level of performance remained high. During this run of 38 consecutive matches, he scored 2 goals and provided 5 assists.

In addition to his offensive contribution, Gerson also stands out defensively, even playing in a more advanced position under Tite's command. He has an average of 86% success rate on passes per game, many of them in the final third of the field, 52% success rate on long balls, almost two tackles and four ball recoveries per game.

This regularity , combined with his numbers and the physical effort required to participate in so many consecutive games, make Gerson one of the most underrated players in the country today, despite all of his quality not always being highlighted in comparison to other names in Brazilian football this season.< /p>

Flamengo had a brilliant performance against Bahia, last Thursday (12), in the quarter-finals of the Brazilian Cup. The 1-0 victory, with a goal from Arrascaeta, reflected the safe and convincing performance of the Rio team. Before the game, captain Gerson gave a speech that captured the essence of what Rubro-Negro presented during the 90 minutes.

In the behind-the-scenes video of the victory, published by FlaTV on YouTube, Gerson is seen giving his usual motivational speech before matches, demonstrating his leadership in the group. In addition to being one of the emotional leaders, he is also one of the team's technical pillars in 2024.

“Everything that was supposed to be said here, I have already heard. We are one game away from a semi-final, so today there is little to say and a lot to do. Today we're going to play football, I want to have fun on the field. Responsibly, but I'll have fun, we will. A good game to everyone and may God bless us”, said the Joker before the start of the game.

Arrascaeta thanks Flamengo's Medical Department

After the match, the scorer of the goal da Vitória gave an interview to FlaTV and made a point of praising the work of the Rubro-Negro Medical Department. Arrascaeta mentioned that he was still not 100% physically, but highlighted the importance of the game for the Copa do Brasil, which justified the effort on the field.

“Happy, firstly for the classification. We worked very hard for this. I want to send congratulations to the Medical Department, which does a great job, takes good care of us, so that we can return as quickly as possible. Today I wasn't yet 100%, but it was very important for me to be in this game. Happy for that and for the victory too”, said Arrascaeta.
