Last Wednesday (24), the Flamengo obtained an important victory over Vitória, with the decisive goal being scored by Carlinhos, thanks to an exquisite assist from Gabigol. The center forward entered the second half and, with a precise pass, guaranteed the red and black victory by 2-1 at the Barradão Stadium, in Salvador.

The presence of Gabigol on the bench reservations at the start of the match generated expectations among fans. Coach Tite opted for Pedro as the starter, but it was Gabigol who shone when he entered the field in the second half. The player showed why he is so loved by the fans by making a crucial pass to Carlinhos, which sealed Flamengo's victory. After the final whistle, fans at Barradão demonstrated their desire for the striker to remain at the club, chanting “Stay, Gabigol”.

GABIGOL WITH HIGH MORALE

Although Gabigol has a contract with Flamengo until December of this year, its future is still undefined. Despite speculation about a possible departure, yesterday's performance strengthened the player's bond with the fans. In recent games, Gabigol has been a key player in the team's success. He participated in two important goals in two consecutive games, demonstrating his importance in the team.

Last Saturday (20), Gabigol also played a crucial role in the victory over Criciúma by 2 to 1, scoring a penalty that guaranteed Flamengo's victory at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília. The striker's sequence of good performances highlights his ability to positively influence the team's results and reinforces his importance for the red and black squad.

Several Uruguayan newspapers covered the tie between Flamengo and Vasco this Sunday (15). Among the main vehicles, “El País” and “Montevidéu Portal” highlighted that Luiz Araújo left the classic with a possible knee injury and could be absent for Rubro-Negro in the first game of the Libertadores quarter-finals against Peñarol, next Thursday (19).

Luiz Araújo played just 18 minutes in the classic. The attacker felt his knee after a challenge with a Vasco defender and even tried to continue on the field, but ended up being replaced by Arrascaeta. At half-time, Flamengo issued a statement informing that the player will be re-evaluated by the medical department at Ninho do Urubu. The squad will be presented again this Monday afternoon (16).

Uruguayan newspapers consider the possible absence of Luiz Araújo a big problem for Mengão. The athlete is a starter in Tite's team, with the most matches for Flamengo this season (50) and leader in assists (10).

The newspaper 'El País' classified the player as a key player for the team: “The injury to Luiz Araújo, one of the most important players in Mengão's squad, expands the list of injured players just a few days before the clash against Peñarol in the Copa Libertadores.”

The 'Montevideo Portal' followed the same line, highlighting the importance of the striker: “In addition to the result, another bad news for Peñarol's next rival in the Copa Libertadores it was the departure of Luiz Araújo. The fast right-winger, starter for Flamengo, felt pain in his right knee after a blow.”

Currently, Flamengo's medical department has five injured players: De La Cruz, Michael, Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro, with the trio formed by Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro only expected to return in 2025.

Expectations for De La Cruz in the game against Peñarol

While awaiting Luiz Araújo's diagnosis, coach Tite revealed, after the draw against Vasco, that he hopes to count on De La Cruz for the duel against Peñarol . According to the coach, the Uruguayan's presence could improve the effectiveness of the team, which has shown good performance in recent matches.

“In training, when he (De la Cruz) was leaving, I asked 'is there enough for 20? minutes?'. He smiled, because he couldn't. The physical department definitely said they were not in a position to do so. Not even him feeling well. Especially because you have to talk to the athlete, because then there is the charge. Hopefully, and I hope that he can be there on Thursday to reproduce today's performance, with greater effectiveness”, said Tite in the post-game press conference between Flamengo x Vasco.

The management of football at Flamengo is the target of constant criticism from the media and Mais Querido fans. Currently, the vice-president of Football, Marcos Braz, is one of the main sources of complaints from red and black people on social media and is seen as an amateur among professionals in the field. The topic is frequently discussed behind the scenes at the club, in the midst of the upcoming election period. Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Bap, pre-candidate for the presidency of Flamengo , spoke in an interview with presenter João Guilherme's podcast that the names leading the portfolio do not are the most important thing, but the philosophy and structure implemented by the representatives and that Mengão's football director needs to be able to lead the entire department, from the base, to the team's style of play.

“The first point is that names are not as relevant as structure and philosophy. When you don't have that, you can put any name and it won't make a difference. So I understand that the first thing is to have a technical director responsible for all football at Flamengo. He has to understand how the club wants to play, training athletes, selling athletes, the concept of “winning, winning and winning”, said Bap.

The pre-candidate also said that the director would have to present a concrete plan as the club already knows what its obligations related to the Brazilian football calendar will be from the end of each season and emphasized that Botafogo prepared better for the year 2024 than Flamengo.

“How do you translate this red-black dream into everyday actions? Playing 78 games a year, with a calendar like we will have in 2025? ‘We want to win, win and win’, but are you going to do things the same way? September of last year we already knew exactly what this year would be like. When I see considerations of ‘we are playing a lot, the calendar is disastrous’, we already knew it would be like this since September. Botafogo knew and, in my opinion, prepared better than Flamengo”, he concluded.
