O Diário Olé, Argentina's main sports newspaper, reported on its social networks that the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has already decided on the venue for the Copa Libertadores de América final. According to the publication, the game will take place at the recently renovated Monumental de Nuñez, River Plate's stadium. The entity has not yet officially commented.

The Copa Libertadores 2024 final is scheduled for November 30th, a Saturday. It will be the sixth unique final of the competition since the model was adopted in 2019. The Monumental de Nuñez has undergone extensive renovation in recent years and has become the stadium with the largest audience capacity on the South American continent. The River Plate field holds 85 thousand people.

Conmebol established the only final of its continental cups in 2019. In the case of the Libertadores, the finals were held in Lima (2019), Rio de Janeiro (2020 ), Montevideo (2021), Guayaquil (2022), Rio de Janeiro (2023). The Argentine capital has been the favorite since before the start of the current edition of the Libertadores. Conmebol announced that the Libertadores final would be in Buenos Aires, but did not say which stadium.

River Plate could play the final at home in 2024

River Plate can play the Libertadores 2024 final at home. The Buenos Aires club spent more than US$45 million to expand the stadium's capacity and modernize the facilities. The main change was the closer proximity of the public to the playing field. The renovation created new areas for fans on the sides and behind the goals.

If they reach the final, River Plate will be the first club to play the only Libertadores final in their own stadium. Fluminense was champion in 2023 at Maracanã, but the Rio tricolor is only the administrator of the public stadium.

Pedro's injury was a hard blow for the team, not only because of the impact on performance on the field, but also because of what it means behind the scenes. With a deep and talented cast, Flamengo tends to maintain its competitive level even with absences, thanks to a full bench. However, Pedro's departure raises the question of how the club will fill this gap.

Rumors about possible international reinforcements began to circulate quickly, with names like Memphis Depay, Martial and Mariano Díaz gaining prominence in the press. However, Flamengo's board is taking a cautious approach. According to information from UOL, two main factors are guiding the club's strategy: the performance of the players already available and the budget situation.

A SCENARIO YOU CAN FORGET IN YOUR MOST DEAR

Firstly, Flamengo is evaluating the ability of its current players to cover Pedro's absence. Among the possible replacements, Gabigol, Bruno Henrique and Carlinhos are mentioned as viable options. These players have a history of good performance and familiarity with the style of play Flamengo, which could facilitate adaptation and minimize the impact of Pedro's injury.

In addition, the club's financial situation is a crucial point in the decision. With more than R$329 million invested in recent signings, Flamengo has already committed a significant part of its budget. This amount is just a little below the R$360.9 million spent in 2019, when President Rodolfo Landim made large investments. The high financial burden of previous signings implies a more restrictive management of available resources.

Flamengo's board also faces difficulties in relation to the sale of players, which further impacts the budget. Negotiations for transfers of Wesley and Fabrício Bruno did not progress as expected, resulting in a lower than desired performance in player sales. This limits the club's ability to invest in new reinforcements, especially in a competitive market.

On Monday (2), a new commission was formed with the aim of discussing the implementation of Financial Fair Play in Brazil. The group is made up of clubs such as Flamengo and Palmeiras, who are looking for ways to adapt the rule to the particularities of national football. Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, was one of the strongest voices in the discussion. In a blunt statement, she called for more responsibility from club boards in financial management. Pereira highlighted that Financial Fair Play should not be seen just as a rule to be complied with, but as an essential tool to guarantee the sustainability of teams.

Financial Fair Play, created by UEFA, aims to control club spending and ensure that they do not spend more than they earn, promoting more balanced financial management. The idea is to prevent clubs from taking on excessive debt and guarantee a fairer level of competition between teams. The formation of the commission with Flamengo, Palmeiras and other clubs signals a significant step in the attempt to implement these rules more effectively in Brazil. The proposal is to discuss and adjust the rule so that it better fits the reality of Brazilian clubs, which face unique financial challenges.

FLAMENGO HAS "EYES OPEN"

The main objective of commission is to establish guidelines that help control club spending without harming growth and investment in football. The intention is to create a balance between the need for investment to improve the teams and the obligation to maintain the financial health of the clubs.

Leila Pereira, in her statement, made an appeal for club boards to be more responsible and transparent in their management. She highlighted that compliance with financial rules must be a priority for all clubs and that it is essential that everyone is committed to more responsible management.

Last year, in April, Flamengo announced and obtained the signing of a year of young Nigerian striker Shola Ogundana, from Nigeria's Remo Stars, for the season sub-20. However, to make him a definitive athlete by 2024, the club will have to make a considerable investment. Ogundana is also known as Africa Mamba, a YouTuber specializing in African football.

”The expectation is that he will make a transition (base and professional), play in the next São Paulo Junior Football Cup and mature. The idea is that the end of the year will be adapted to Brazilian football. Leaving Nigeria and going to Brazil is not easy either. Shola is fast and stands out for his assistance. There are 18 games and 10 passes for goals. Finally, Fla will have to pay 500 thousand dollars (R$ 2.4 million) if it wants to remain with Ogundana”, said the influencer.

If the athlete demonstrates a good performance in the under-20 team from the club, the Nigerian has a great chance of being taken advantage of by coach Tite. The coach has always valued players with speed characteristics, as happened with Everton Cebolinha, Bruno Henrique and Luiz Araújo.

FLAMENGO WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY IN THE U-20 WORLD WORLD AGAINST EUROPEAN TEAM IN BRAZIL

Flamengo beat Boca Juniors this Sunday afternoon (17) and won the unprecedented Libertadores under-20 title. Now, champion of the South American competition, Mais Querido will have the chance to also be World champion in the category. Therefore, Rubro Negro must face the European champion in a unique game in Brazil. WORLD WORLD DECISION AT MARACANÃ?

Flamengo could face the European champion at Maracanã or in another stadium chosen by the Mais Querido board. Four teams remain in contention for this season's European title. A semi-final pits Porto (POR) and Milan (ITA). The other is between Nantes (FRA) and Olympiacos (GRE). The matches take place in April.
