During the Seleção SporTV program, journalist André Rizek commented on the possible sale of right-back Wesley to Roma and highlighted Flamengo's financial planning at the start of the season. According to Rizek, the club received offers between €25 and €30 million (approximately R$161 million and R$194 million), but opted to wait, betting on the player's value.
Rizek on the sale of Wesley by Flamengo: "they could sell for more"
"Some water has gotten into this situation. At the beginning of the year, talking to people at Flamengo , they told me they had offers for Wesley in the region of 25-30 million euros. They decided to wait because Wesley was on the rise and attracting Hansi Flick's attention. He was playing really well. There was a possibility of Barcelona and a higher offer," the journalist revealed.
As the months passed, however, Wesley's performance declined, and interest from European giants like Barcelona failed to materialize. Now, Roma's current offer is considered excellent , and Flamengo is expected to accept it.
"Wesley has had a bit of a decline. Today, it's hard to say whether he's the starting player or Varela. My impression, because I haven't updated this information, is that you can't turn down a €25 million offer . Flamengo recently decided to wait until this window, believing they could sell for more. But it's a great deal."
In addition to Rizek, Eric Faria also commented on the amounts involved in the negotiation. He highlighted that Roma's offer is around €25 million, while Fluminense, for example, sold Jhon Arias to Wolverhampton for €11 million, less than half the amount for Wesley. "Flamengo could earn €25 million, and Fluminense will get €11 million. They'll get twice as much for Wesley ," Eric pointed out.
Rizek added that, although the club expected an even higher valuation, the deal remains advantageous: "The valuation that Flamengo imagined it could get even higher didn't happen . But it's a great sale, that's undeniable."
With Wesley's departure becoming increasingly close, Flamengo is already working behind the scenes to find a new right-back , aiming to maintain the technical level of the position throughout the rest of the season and should only let go of the number 43 when a replacement is ready.
