Flamengo's season has been disastrous so far, as has Palmeiras, who were eliminated in the Libertadores semi-finals by Boca Juniors (ARG). Journalist Milton Neves, from UOL, commented on the disappointments of the two clubs. He stated that the São Paulo team has had a more disappointing year than Rubro Negro.
“South American football has been dominated in recent years by the powerful Palmeiras and Flamengo. Alviverdes and rubro-negros, millionaires, have assembled European-level teams at Allianz and Gávea, respectively. That's why they have been left over on the continent where most teams lose their main stars to the more moneyed football markets. But 2023 was different. Of course, in the Brasileirão a lot can still happen. But the title will hardly escape the staggering Botafogo”, said Milton Neves before completing.
“In other words, this season has everything to be the first, since 2017, in which the two powerful Brazilian clubs, together, they will not take away any relevant cup. What a thing, right? But the question remains: which one disappointed the most in 2023? Well, in my opinion, it was Palmeiras."
