Three-time champion of the competition, with two victories in the last five years, Flamengo was not satisfied with the group assigned to the first phase of the 2024 Libertadores. At least that was the opinion expressed by the club's president, Rodolfo Landim, who admitted that he preferred other combinations that could have been made.
“As it is balanced, it is difficult for us to say. But like that, there are groups there that we would prefer to be in”, began the representative, before continuing: “Never mind. I have already commented that playing at altitude is a problem for all Brazilian clubs. Historically it is a problem. And the very complicated logistics are also a problem, right? So just see who ended up taking lower altitudes or at sea level, it would be better. But we can't choose, we'll play wherever we have to play. We have to play well and that's it.”
ALTITUDE WORRIES THE PRESIDENT OF FLAMENGO
Altitude is the manager's main concern, since the team will face two challenges in places elevated in relation to sea level. The clashes against Millonarios, from Colombia, and Bolívar already generate apprehension, but Landim also highlighted the 2019 campaign to reinforce confidence in the club's potential.
“In 2019, for example, it would be difficult for anyone to point to Flamengo as the favorite, and we ended up winning. So it's difficult, because the clubs that participate are receiving large investments, we see what has been happening with the SAFs spread across Latin America. It's difficult to point out a favorite at this moment. It's a very complicated competition, where logistics are complicated, there are games at altitude, the classification in the group stage is also important, because it influences the round-trip game afterwards. So, I would say today that I don't see any big favorites”, he added.
The Libertadores group stage will start on April 2nd, with Mengão facing Millonarios away from home at the time. The commitment will take place in the middle of the week between the two finals of the Campeonato Carioca, which will be played against Nova Iguaçu.

Flamengo secured around R$3 million with the transfer of midfielder Vinícius Souza to Wolfsburg, Germany. The German club paid 15 million euros (approximately R$95.8 million) to acquire the player from Sheffield United, England.
The amount allocated to Rubro-Negro is related to FIFA 's solidarity mechanism, which determines the division of 5% of the total value of international negotiations between the clubs that participated in the athlete's training between the ages of 12 and 23. As Flamengo had the player until he was 21, the amount to which it is entitled is 3.05%.
LINK WITH WOLFSBURG
Officially announced on Wolfsburg's social media, Vinícius Souza was called "Garoto do Ninho" , in reference to his training at Mengão's youth academy. The contract signed with the German club will be valid until 2030, consolidating the new step in the 26-year-old athlete's career.
Vinição's performance, as he is known , throughout his time in Europe was marked by defensive consistency and good positioning, which caught the attention of the Bundesliga club. The expectation is that he will assume a relevant role in the Wolves' midfield in the coming seasons.

Born in Padre Miguel, a neighborhood in the west zone of Rio, Vinícius Souza began his career with Mengão's under-15 team in 2014. Promoted to the main squad in 2019, he had his first opportunity in the final minutes of a match in the Campeonato Carioca. That same year, he was part of the historic squad led by Jorge Jesus, winning the Libertadores and Brasileirão titles.

SAO PAULO MAY HAVE REINFORCEMENTS AGAINST FLAMENGO
This Saturday (5), midfielder Lucas Moura and striker Ferreira took another step in their recovery from injury. Thus, the duo did a new physical transition session and are closer to returning to the pitch.
The players participated in an activity on physical preparation. Lucas has been experiencing pain in his right knee since March and was diagnosed with a posterior capsule strain in May. The player was given three months to resolve the problem, but he should return this month.
