Coach praised the goalkeeper's match against Bahia in the Copa do Brasil and competition with Rossi
|
0Flamengo beat Bahia last Wednesday (28) by 1 to 0 for the first match of the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. In addition to Bruno Henrique, scorer of the red-black goal, another player that the red-blacks have been “thanking” for the victory is Matheus Cunha. The archer, who is considered the “goalkeeper of the cups” by the technical committee, made great saves and avoided an adverse result at Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova.
The coach Titewas questioned about Matheus Cunha's performance in the post-game press conference. The coach praised the young goalkeeper and highlighted the importance of both Matheus and Rossi, the red-and-black goalkeeper, who he classified as “two great goalkeepers” and said that both are prepared for any challenge that may come their way during the season.
“Two great athletes (Rossi and Matheus Cunha) competing in a fair way raise the technical level, it was like that with Matheus. An athlete who was a starter last year and showed quality. Rossi having a great championship. There are two athletes raising the level, so you have peace of mind. Whatever the challenge, they are prepared”, declared the coach.
Matheus Cunha experienced ups and downs at Flamengo. The goalkeeper became a starter in the red-and-black goal in 2023 with coach Jorge Sampaoli due to the poor form of Santos, who is now at Fortaleza, at the time, and believed that the young man had greater quality with his feet than Rossi, who arrived after a short spell on loan at Al Nassr, as he had already signed a pre-contract with Mais Querido and was in the final months of his agreement with Boca Juniors.
After failing in important moments such as in the final of the Copa do Brasil, Matheus Cunha went to the bench, Rossi took over as starter and never let go again. Since Tite's arrival, however, Matheus Cunha has been used in the Copa do Brasil and has shown his ability, both against Palmeiras and against Bahia.
