During the last transfer window, Flamengo showed interest in several players, including striker Deivid Washington. In the midst of negotiations with Chelsea (ING), Washington kept in touch with an athlete from the Rio club: Matheus Gonçalves.
“We talked, I spoke to him. We joked around, he said he was watching, but unfortunately he couldn't go (to Flamengo). May God bless his life at Chelsea”, revealed the Flamengo midfielder, after a friendly with the Under-20 team.
It is important to note that Matheus Gonçalves and Deivid Washington are teammates on the Brazilian Under-20 team and both were called up by coach Ramon Menezes for the friendly against Mexico, held on Sunday (08).
The transfer window closed a year ago. a week, and Flamengo was unable to sign Deivid Washington. At the end of the negotiations, Chelsea were willing to release the 19-year-old on loan, without an option to purchase, as long as Rubro-Negro paid half of the player's salary. However, the Rio club did not accept the proposal.
Despite not having signed Deivid Washington, Flamengo ended the window with a “reinforcement package”. The club signed left-back Alex Sandro, midfielder Alcaraz and strikers Michael and Gonzalo Plata. Ecuadorian Gonzalo Plata will even give a press conference this Monday (09).
The teams play the first game of the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."

Name that was targeted by Flamengo in the last window and which could return to Mengão's radar at the beginning of next year to replace Pedro, Deivid Washington has been underutilized at Chelsea. However, in the English club's under-21 squad, he is one of the team's highlights, scoring a great goal this Sunday.

Deivid Washington almost came to Flamengo before Pedro's injury. One of the targets in the middle of the year, he was close to being a reinforcement even before the striker's injury. A 19-year-old center forward, Deivid would arrive to wear the Sacred Mantle on a loan until the end of December 2024, with Rubro-Negro paying most of his salary.
However, a negotiation that seemed right , with Chelsea willing to accept Flamengo's proposal and Deivid Washington interested in playing for the Rio club, was frustrated by a last-minute decision from the English. The London team decided to prioritize direct loan offers from Europe, believing in better experience and preparation, including having already received proposals from Portugal.
A few days later, Pedro would be injured while serving the Brazilian team, and Deivid Washington, who would be an immediate solution, became an option only for next year.
