Coach Maurício Souza, known for his work with Flamengo 's youth team and for his interim stints with the professional team, was officially announced as the new coach of Persija Jakarta on Tuesday (27). The Indonesian club opted to bring a familiar name back to the country after Mauricinho's above-average performance in charge of Madura United.
With only a few weeks off the market since leaving Guarani, Maurício is back working abroad with the mission of putting Persija back among the protagonists of local football. Last season, the team finished the Indonesian League 1 in seventh place, with 51 points.
The Brazilian coach was chosen based on the positive impression he left in the 2023/24 season. Despite having a limited budget — the 13th lowest among Indonesian elite clubs — Maurício managed to lead Madura United to the national league final. This achievement caught the attention of Persija's board, who were looking for a coach with local experience and a leadership profile in projects with controlled resources.
Maurício, 49, returns to the Asian scene with the support of the good work he has done and with the possibility of building a longer career outside of Brazil, where he has had his ups and downs since leaving Flamengo . He has even managed the main team on an interim basis on a few occasions, accumulating positive numbers: 11 wins, two draws and only two defeats in 15 matches in charge of the main team.
Despite his good results at Flamengo , Maurício faced difficulties in his subsequent experiences. At Vasco, he was hired to lead the team in Série B, but he could not resist the pressure and ended up being fired amidst a turbulent time for the club. Afterwards, he had short stints at teams such as Red Bull Bragantino — where he won the Campeonato Brasileiro de Aspirantes title — and Guarani itself, where he did not last long.

Flamengo beat Internacional 1-0 this Wednesday (13) , at Maracanã, and started with an advantage in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Despite the positive result, striker Bruno Henrique assessed that the team lost performance in the second half and explained the reasons for the drop in intensity.
" In the second half, for the first 15 minutes , we want to score right away, and it ends up deviating a bit from what we planned at halftime. We end up being a bit exposed, and the opposing team scores a lot in the first half. In the second half, they have to open up to try to score," said the number 27.
"That's what happened against Internacional. They scored the whole time in the first half. We had more possession, more shots, and more through balls. Before that, the teams will face each other again next Sunday (17), for the Brazilian Championship, again in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time).

Midfielder Jorge Carrascal made his debut for Flamengo this Wednesday (13), against Internacional , in a duel valid for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. The Colombian player, who was already regularized, was related last Saturday (9), against Mirassol, but did not enter the field on that occasion.
The opportunity arose during the continental tournament. Carrascal replaced Gonzalo Plata in the 28th minute of the second half and remained on the field for 23 minutes, including stoppage time. Flamengo showed strength and organization from the opening whistle to defeat Internacional in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Round of 16, controlling the action against the Colorado team in a packed Maracanã stadium.
