The president of Vasco, Pedrinho, said that “Papai do Céu” blessed him with the CBF's decision to postpone the Brazilian Championship round and, consequently, the game between Flamengo x Vasco. The director said that he hesitated in taking action to recover the Vasco SAF contract from 777 before the classic, but that his advisors warned him that there was a greater risk than being blamed for a possible defeat in the game against his biggest rival if he did not did it.
“There was no way. I was supported by my Legal team who said, you are running the risk of not entering and the actions being blocked. And I think the price you will pay is higher than if you take action in a Vasco x Flamengo game and Vasco happens to have a bad game. I don't want to put faith in the conversation, but even in this Heavenly Father blessed, because the game was postponed, unfortunately due to a tragedy, because otherwise anything negative that happened in the match, they would put it on my account that I was causing trouble”, he stated.
Pedrinho said that he never intended to enter into a legal battle against 777, but that he was forced by the news that came out in the press last weekend that the company is accused of fraud in the USA .
“The decision I had to make in a week of Vasco x Flamengo killed me, because I know it would be on my account. But if I don't fulfill what I preach on a daily basis, I would be being unfair and lying to the Vasco fans. I knew that I would have to pay that price and that it would hurt a lot when it was announced that I had filed the lawsuit, because people would judge without knowing,” he said.
Pedrinho said that was never his intention “screwing” Vasco and that if one day he realizes, during a game in São Januário, that this is the perception of the majority of fans about him, he will immediately resign from his position.
He also made a point of emphasize that the fight between partners does not affect the club's day-to-day football and said that, if the contract is already signed, he does not see why Portuguese coach Álvaro Pacheco should not take on the role normally.
Pedrinho he also stated that he hopes there will be money in hand to pay salaries, but he stated that there is no contribution from 777 planned before the transfer window and guaranteed that if he is in a situation of “financial collapse”, he will ensure the payment of salaries for any way – but did not state how.

This Thursday (18), Flamengo begins the dispute of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores against Estudiantes, at Maracanã. On the eve of the confrontation, the president and idol of the Argentine club, Juan Sebastián Verón, spoke about the expectations for the duel against Rubro-Negro.
During an institutional event in La Plata, Verón highlighted the financial difference between the teams , with Mengão being the team with the highest market value among the tournament participants, but recalled Estudiantes ' tradition of overcoming opponents considered favorites.
Estudiantes' Verón on Flamengo in the Libertadores: "Yes, the challenge is difficult"
"Obviously, we know the power of our opponent, but we also know that we've been through similar situations against important teams, and that the club, given its history, has risen to the occasion. We've always kept this in mind: yes, the challenge is difficult, but we can excel and represent the club well , regardless of the result. We've experienced this before, and we continue to do so," the director stated.
In the early 1990s, Verón began his career at Estudiantes and played in the 2-0 victory over Flamengo in the 1994 Supercopa Libertadores . In addition to his former club, the former midfielder also shone for major teams such as Boca Juniors, Lazio, Manchester United and Inter Milan . In 2007, he returned to Estudiantes and was a key player in their 2009 Copa Libertadores victory.
Verón retired in 2014, but returned to the field three years later as a player-president . His last official match came in 2017, against Botafogo, also in the Copa Libertadores, during the group stage.
