Flamengo secured its place in the round of 16 of the Libertadores, but now faces a wait of more than two months to return to compete in the competition. The break is caused by the Copa América, something that also happened in 2019. However, the circumstances in 2024 are very different, presenting new challenges for Rubro-Negro. A HOPE IN LIBERTADORES

In 2019, the Flamengo took advantage of the interruption to make a change in technical command, bringing in Jorge Jesus, which proved to be a wise decision. Furthermore, on that occasion, the Brasileirão was also suspended during the Copa América, allowing the team to rest and better prepare for the knockout stage. Now, in 2024, the situation is different.

The board of Flamengo fully trusts Tite's work, so a change in the coaching staff is not in the plans. However, the coach will face a tight schedule. The Brasileirão will continue during the Copa América, without a break. Furthermore, the team still needs to make up two matches postponed due to the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul. This means that Flamengo will not have the same rest time as it did in 2019.

Another crucial difference is the level confrontation in the round of 16. In 2019, Flamengo finished the group stage in the lead, which guaranteed a more accessible opponent in the knockout stage. In 2024, the team took second place in Group E, which could result in a more difficult confrontation in the next phase.

Despite the challenges, Flamengo is going through a good moment with four consecutive victories. However, the break for the Copa América brings uncertainty. It is still too early to say whether this interruption will be beneficial or detrimental to the team. Everything will depend on how the team returns in August and who their opponent will be in the round of 16.
