A few days before the first game of the Copa do Brasil final, Flamengo suffered a terrible defeat. On Wednesday night (13) the team lost 3-0 to Athletico-PR, which was a result of the terrible performance of the players and the major failures of the technical committee, which had more than 10 days to organize itself for this match, considering that the club's last game was on September 2nd, against Botafogo.
In this clash with the leader of the Brazilian Championship, Mais Querido managed to achieve success, winning by 2 to 1. Sampaoli then admitted in the Press Conference after the game against the Athleticanos that he developed a tactical scheme very similar to the one he opted for in the classic. This is because, in his words, both teams work a lot with crosses.
"We faced a team that has a lot of crosses, so the plan had reference to the same against Botafogo, but with different names", said the Argentinean to the journalists present. The names that entered the field, impressing many, were Thiago Maia and David Luiz.
The youngest came on to replace Filipe Luís, who suffered an injury in training this Tuesday (12). It was a decision that had to be made at the last minute. David was already fulfilling the function of Pulgar. The Chilean was selected to support his country's team in the South American qualifiers and played earlier this week against Colombia.
However, Sampaoli did not identify that the problem was the tactics or the chosen squad . For the coach, everything should have gone right, as was the case in the match against Botafogo, but this time, what was missing was precision. "The team played a great game against Botafogo. Today they played a nervous game. When we play as home team we have more inaccuracies", he explained.
Jorge Sampaoli also said that he has not lost hope in the Copa do Brazil and is very confident that they will have a good result. Flamengo and São Paulo's first game will be on Sunday (17) at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. The second match, on the following Sunday (24), will be at the same time, but at Morumbi, in the capital of São Paulo.

The duel between Flamengo and Grêmio this Sunday (31) , valid for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship, ended in a 1-1 draw at Maracanã. Mais Querido opened the scoring at the beginning of the second half with Arrascaeta, but saw goalkeeper Tiago Volpi convert a penalty and leave everything equal in the final stretch of the match.
The first half was marked by Flamengo 's control, maintaining possession but struggling to overcome Mano Menezes's tight marking. Pedro and Léo Pereira's key chances came from moves that forced Volpi into crucial saves and Noriega into a clearance on the line. For Grêmio, counterattacks were ineffective, and Rossi barely played in the first 45 minutes.
Just seven minutes into the second half, Mengão managed to convert the pressure into a goal . After a quick exchange of passes, Arrascaeta exchanged passes with Pedro and shot low, leaving Volpi with no chance, sending the red-and-black fans into an eruption in the stands.
However, the balance returned in the 37th minute. Pavón attempted a cross from the right, but the ball deflected off Ayrton Lucas's hand inside the box . The referee awarded the penalty, which goalkeeper Tiago Volpi skillfully converted: the ball went into one corner, Rossi into the other.
After the equalizer, Flamengo launched an attack. Bruno Henrique and Emerson Royal came on to provide some breathing room, but their attempts were thwarted by the Gaucho team's marking and Volpi's solid defense . With the result, Flamengo remains in the lead, but its lead in the standings is under pressure.
The defender received a controversial card against Grêmio and will be a confirmed absence for Mengão's next game, which will have other important absences.

Flamengo took to the field this Sunday (31) against Grêmio, for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship, but already has a confirmed problem for the next commitment. Defender Léo Ortiz received a yellow card in the first half and will serve a suspension against Juventude.
The warning came in the 44th minute, after a tackle in which the defender disarmed an opponent. Despite the clean play, referee Paulo César Zanovelli da Silva deemed it a foul and penalized the number 3 , sparking protests from the red-and-blacks.
Without Ortiz, the team led by Filipe Luís returns to the field only on September 14 , against Juventude, at 4 pm, at the Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, in a duel valid for the 23rd round of the Brasileirão .
In addition to the defender's suspension, Flamengo already knows it will be without Erick Pulgar. The midfielder is recovering from a fractured right foot and is expected to return only at the end of September. Full-back Alex Sandro, with a calf injury, and midfielder Jorginho, with muscle pain, are also doubtful for the next match.
The red-and-black squad will have a two-week break due to the FIFA World Cup. The Brazilian national team will play the last two rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers : Chile on September 4th and Bolivia on the 9th.
