Santos has begun talks to sign Victor Hugo, a midfielder who came through Flamengo's ranks and is currently out of position with coach Filipe Luís. Santos' director of football, Alexandre Mattos, contacted José Boto , an executive at the Rio de Janeiro club, to try to facilitate the negotiation.

Santos' proposal includes a loan, but the deal is considered complicated, especially due to competition from Famalicão, a Portuguese club. While the Brazilian transfer window closes on September 2, European clubs can register reinforcements until September 15 , increasing the Portuguese team's chances of closing the deal.

VICTOR HUGO WAS ALREADY A TARGET IN EUROPE

A product of Ninho do Urubu, Victor Hugo made his professional debut in 2022 and has made over 100 appearances for the Mais Querido. In 2023, he reached his peak under Jorge Sampaoli , starting several matches.

At that time, Wolverhampton, from England, presented a proposal of approximately 20 million euros (around R$ 107 million) , but the board and the athlete's staff decided that it was not the right time for him to leave.

LOSS OF SPACE AND NEGOTIATION

After Sampaoli's departure, Victor Hugo lost his place in the squad and ended up being loaned to Goztepe in Turkey. He returned to Mengão in July of this year, during which time Famalicão negotiated his signing.

Initially, Flamengo agreed to release the player without a fee, retaining 50% of his economic rights. However, the negative repercussions forced the board to back down, demanding financial compensation or a loan with advantageous terms. This impasse has stalled negotiations and could still influence negotiations with Santos .

Cruzeiro director opens up about the possible departure of Gabigol, ex-Flamengo

Even with reduced minutes on the field and matches without playing, the number 9 remains in Raposa's plans, which reinforces confidence in the player until the end of his contract.

Gabigol, formerly of Flamengo, has been facing a period of low minutes at Cruzeiro , playing mostly as an option on the bench. Last Monday (18), against Mirassol, the number 9 didn't even take the field. Despite this, the striker's contract with the Celeste team runs until December 2028, and the board guarantees that he remains in the club's plans.

In an interview with journalist Jaeci's channel, Pedro Junio, vice president of Cruzeiro's SAF, highlighted the striker's dedication and denied any possibility of a departure at this time. " We are very confident with Gabriel. He is a high-level, high-performance athlete who is dedicated to the club. He has been given opportunities and is fully integrated into the squad," the director stated.

According to him, there's no sign of the player's dissatisfaction with the current situation. " Gabriel is super happy here at the club, let's be clear about that. He's never expressed dissatisfaction with whether he's playing or not, or whether he's part of the scheme or not. He's happy and dedicated, always available; he's a technical option," added Pedro Junio.

ATTACKER LOST SPACE

Gabigol started the season as a starter, but from the third round of the Brazilian Championship onwards, he began to appear on the bench under coach Leonardo Jardim. Since then, he has started only twice, accumulating 557 minutes on the pitch , including injury time. Despite the reduction in playing time, Cruzeiro believes the player can be decisive later in the season and emphasizes that he remains part of the club's project.

SEASON FOR CRUISE

In 2025, Gabigol played 30 matches for Cruzeiro, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists under Leonardo Jardim. Despite a strong start, the loss of a starting spot and early elimination from international competitions diminished his prominence.
