Last Wednesday, the 25th, Flamengo faced Grêmio in a decisive clash for the 29th round of the Brazilian Championship. However, what was expected to be a game that would bring Rubro-Negro closer to the lead turned into a bitter 3-2 defeat, in the stadium of the team from Rio Grande do Sul, in Porto Alegre. The result left Flamengo slipping from third to fourth place in the competition table.

The Brasileirão table presents a fierce scenario, where points become increasingly precious as the tournament progresses. Currently, Botafogo leads with 59 points, closely followed by Bragantino with 52, and Palmeiras with 50 points. Flamengo shares fourth place with Palmeiras, however, they are behind on the tiebreaker criteria. The difference to the leader, Botafogo, is nine points, making winning the title an arduous task.

In addition to the long-awaited clash between Flamengo and Grêmio, six other games opened the 29th round of the Brasileirão. At the Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium, Bragantino lost 2-1 to Atlético-MG, while at the Arena da Baixada, Athletico-PR beat América-MG 3-2. Fluminense also stood out by defeating Goiás 5 to 3, at Raulino de Oliveira. At Mineirão, Cruzeiro beat Bahia 3-0, and Palmeiras did not spare São Paulo, delivering a 5-0 rout at Allianz Parque. Closing the Wednesday of games, Corinthians defeated Cuiabá at Arena Pantanal, with a tight score of 1-0.

Wednesday, initially promising for Flamengo, saw their hopes fade. Bragantino's defeat to Atlético-MG seemed to open the way for Rubro-Negro to take second place in the Brasileirão. However, the unexpected defeat against Grêmio reignited the competition and Flamengo was overtaken in the table, now in fourth place, tied with Palmeiras, but losing on the tiebreaker criteria.

With 50 points, Flamengo is nine points behind leader Botafogo, making winning the title more distant. Rubro-Negro's next match will be against Santos, in Brasília, at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, on Wednesday, November 1st, at 8pm (Brasília time). The clash against Bragantino, originally scheduled for next weekend, was postponed due to the closure of Maracanã for renovations aimed at the Libertadores da América. It remains for Flamengo to seek recovery and keep alive the hope of winning the Brasileirão.
