Rebeca Andrade made history this Thursday (1) by winning the silver medal in the individual all-around final at Paris 2024 , after a fierce competition with Simone Biles, who took gold. The two should still face each other on Saturday (3), starting at 11:20 am, in the vault final, and next Monday (5), starting at 7:38 am, in the beam and floor finals.

Last Tuesday (30), the gymnast took bronze alongside the Brazilian team in the team final. This is Rebeca Andrade's third Olympics. She made her debut at Rio 2016 and, at Tokyo 2020, she took gold in vault and silver in the individual all-around.

Close to breaking the record

With four Olympic medals under her belt, the gymnast is getting closer and closer to becoming Brazil's biggest Olympic medalist. Currently, the record holders are sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael, each with five medals. Scheidt has two golds, two silvers and one bronze, while Torben has two golds, one silver and two bronzes.

How much can Rebeca Andrade win at Paris 2024?

In winning the team bronze, Rebeca Andrade received a prize of R$56,000 from the COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee), out of a total of R$280,000 for the Brazilian artistic gymnastics team. With silver in the individual all-around, she guarantees another R$210,000 from the committee.

With three more podium races ahead, the athlete can still increase the amount she will take home. According to the values defined by the COB, in individual modalities, the gold medalist receives R$350,000, while the silver medalist receives R$210,000 and the bronze medalist receives R$140,000.

Brazil in Gymnastics

With this achievement, Brazil now has 8 Olympic medals in women's and men's sports. The first of these was achieved in 2012, when Arthur Zanetti took gold on the rings. In 2016, Zanetti returned to the podium to receive silver on the same device, while Diego Hypólito and Arthur Nory took silver and bronze, respectively, on floor exercise.

Sesc Flamengo achieved an important victory over Tijuca Tênis Clube, this Tuesday (7), and sealed its place in the final of the Carioca Volleyball Championship. After the setback against Fluminense in the previous round, Bernardinho's team reacted with authority and won by 3 sets to 1, with partial scores of 25/21, 25/23 and 25/23.

Despite a brief stumble in the third set, when the opponent showed a strong reaction , Mais Querido maintained control of the match for most of the time and ensured its return to the state final.

CONSISTENT PERFORMANCE

The first two sets had a similar storyline: Sesc Flamengo dominated technically and tactically, but faced resistance from Tijuca Tênis Clube. In the first, the red-and-black team opened up a six-point lead, but saw their opponent close in late in the set, finishing 25-21.

The balance continued in the second set. The teams were tied at 20-20, until Mengão managed to open up a two-point lead and close it out at 25-23, extending their lead. In the third set, Tijuca fought back and took an 11-4 lead, exploiting Sesc Flamengo's defensive lapses. However, Bernardinho's team held their nerve, narrowed the gap, and regained control in the final stretch, turning the score around to 25-23.

FLUMINENSE WILL BE THE OPPONENT

With this result, Sesc Flamengo secured a spot in the final of the Rio de Janeiro Volleyball Championship, where they will once again face Fluminense—the team they defeated in the previous round. The final promises to be a tight contest, featuring two of the strongest squads in the state.
