In an afternoon of strong emotions at Maracanã, Flamengo won the U20 Intercontinental Cup by defeating Olympiacos 2-1 this Saturday (24). The Rio team, led by coach Filipe Luís, needed to turn the score around after falling behind, but secured the unprecedented title with goals from Caio Garcia and Felipe Teresa.
Olympiacos made a point of highlighting the reception they received had since arriving in Brazil. In the locker room, the Greek club left a message, in Spanish, to thank Mais Querido for the good welcome they received. “Gracias por la hospitality, Olympiacos FC” (thank you for the hospitality).
On social networks, the Greek club made a publication praising the final held at Maracanã, which it treated as a historic stadium. In the post, Olympiacos praised the red and black fans who sang from start to finish for Flamengo and pushed Mais Querido to the title of the international competition.
“Tonight, we saw and experienced a great final against a great opponent in a historic stadium, Maracanã, in Brazil. Our young players performed in front of 40 thousand Flamengo fans who never stopped singing for their team. They put on a display of football, full of passion and a round of Olympiacos magnitude and they are worthy of praise again”, wrote the Greek team.
On the red and black side, the coach Filipe Luís had a lot of praise for Olympiacos. “ As Guardiola would say, it is never easy to attack a team with 5-4-1. We preferred to fill the middle, the advantage was on the outside, but it's difficult to get in. They beat Milan 3-0, Bayern... it's a tactically perfect team. It’s difficult to make chances”, said the World champion.

Rio de Janeiro club terminates contract with Libertadores champion coach Cleber dos Santos and hires Nuno Campos to lead the under-20 team
|
Flamengo officially announced on Wednesday night (02) the dismissal of coach Cleber dos Santos, who until then was in charge of the under-20 team. Even after winning the Libertadores in the category last month, the coach was dismissed from the club, making room for the arrival of Portuguese Nuno Campos.
The decision was communicated through an official note : “Coach Cleber dos Santos is no longer part of the technical committee of Flamengo's youth teams. The club thanks him for his services and wishes him success in the continuation of his career” , informed the Rubro-Negro's communications department.
In addition to the continental title, Cleber played a relevant role in the 2025 season by leading Mais Querido's alternative team during the first rounds of the Campeonato Carioca. Under his command, the team scored crucial points to win the Taça Guanabara. “We would have liked to have had better results, but it was a valuable experience for the players and contributed to their development,” said the coach.
To replace Cleber dos Santos, Flamengo opted to hire Portuguese coach Nuno Campos , a 49-year-old who previously worked for Toluca in Mexico. He takes charge of the under-20 category with the mission of maintaining the team's high competitive level.
The new commander is not arriving alone. Along with him, Gonçalo Cruz was announced as assistant coach. On Tuesday (25), Nuno Campos already led his first activity at CT Ninho do Urubu, starting work for the 'Clássico dos Milhões' this Friday (28).
Nuno Campos has experience in European football, working as an assistant coach at several clubs on the continent. With a modern style of play and backed by his relationship with José Boto, Flamengo 's football director, he has carte blanche to implement his methodology at the club's youth academy.
