The red-black gymnast is on the list of candidates alongside huge names in the sport such as Filipe Toledo and Bia Haddad

This Sunday (03), the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) announced the names of the athletes competing for the 2023 Best Athlete of the Year trophy. The list includes the great red-black gymnast, Rebeca Andrade, who had a spectacular year, full of medals in different competitions. In addition to her, tennis player Bia Haddad (tennis) and surfer Filipe Toledo were also nominated.


The winners, in the female and male categories, will be revealed on December 15th, at the Brazil Olímpico Award ceremony, in Cidade das Artes, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Ana Patrícia and Duda (beach volleyball) are also competing with Bia and Rebeca, and alongside Filipe are Hugo Calderano (table tennis) and Marcus D´Almeida (archery).


In 2022, Rebeca, together with Alison dos Santos, from athletics, received the award given by the COB after winning Olympic and world medals. In 2023, Rebeca surprised again, becoming the country's most awarded gymnast at the world championships. She was runner-up in the Team Gymnastics World Championship, along with Team Brazil.


There were 14 medals this year: seven gold, six silver and one bronze. At the Brazilian Championship, she helped lead the Flamengo team to first place in the team competition, on the uneven bars, beam and floor. At the World Cup, she settled for a silver, on the uneven bars.

At the World Championships, in Antwerp, Belgium, she dominated. In the individual all-around, she achieved silver, after winning gold on vault, bronze on beam and silver on floor. At the Pan American Games she did even better: silver in the all-around, gold in the vault and beam, as well as another silver in the uneven bars.


The COB ceremony will also celebrate Team Brazil's historic participation in the Pan American Games in Santiago, held between October and November this year. At the end of the competition, the country took second place overall and broke the record for total medals (205) and the record for gold medals won in the same edition (66).

"All competitors for the Best Athlete of the Year trophy at the 2023 Olympic Brazil Awards are high-level representatives of Brazilian sport. It is important to highlight the quality of these athletes and the promising future for our sport in different modalities. The year 2023 was great results for our country and it is an enormous pride for the COB to celebrate these achievements and pay homage to the great stars of the show, the athletes. It was a year of many successes, especially in the Pan American Games, and in several world championships. The most short Olympic cycle in history is coming to an end and Brazil continues firmly towards Paris 2024", stated Paulo Wanderley, president of the COB.

Marcelinho Machado, champion of everything with the Flamengo shirt, now gives his name to the basketball court inside the Gávea. The tribute took place this past Saturday (2), at the club's headquarters, in "recognition of his brilliant trajectory and unparalleled contribution to red and black basketball", according to the Mengo website.


"It's an indescribable emotion, a huge sense of pride. As a red-black guy, I didn't dream of one day achieving what I achieved at Flamengo. with so much tradition and so much history. I think (this court) is a reflection of that history", said Marcelinho, in an interview with Flamengo's official website.



"Thank you to Flamengo for the honor. The love I have for this club is immeasurable, I can't put it into words. Having a court named after me shows that everything was worth it, all the effort I made to help Flamengo reach the top of basketball. national", added the idol.

TITLES WON


Marcelinho defended the Sacred Mantle from 2007 to 2018. In total, the idol won the World Cup, an Americas League, a South American League, five NBB's, one Brazilian Championship and ten Carioca Championships.

Sesc RJ Flamengo secured their second victory in the Women's Superliga. Away from home, coach Bernardinho's team overcame the Paulistano Barueri, this Friday (01.11), for 3 sets to 1, with splits of 25/17, 12/25, 25/20 and 25/20, in São Paulo.



O < b>Rubro-Negro had a good performance in the three partials they won and reached six points in the championship standings, jumping to fifth place, tied with Fluminense, but behind on the balance of sets. The opposite Edinara was the highlight of the red and black team. With 18 hits, she finished the match as the highest scorer and also took home the VivaVôlei Trophy for best on the court.


"I'm very happy. It's a dream come true to wear this shirt and the trophy is the result of a lot of teamwork. We are working hard in search of our growth. We know it won't be easy, but we believe a lot in our group. We are building our team game after game. We had some difficulties, but we managed to overcome them", Edinara said.


The team Rio de Janeiro returns to the court on Tuesday (05.11), at 9:30 pm, in the derby against Osasco, again away from home.

On the first day of the Brazil Judo Trophy, held in Belo Horizonte, Mengão shined on the mat by winning two medals. Rafaelas, Batista and Silva, from FlaJudô, shone on the podium. After winning Olympic bronze, Rafaela Silva, in her first official competition in the under-63 kg category, won all her fights and, as usual, took home the gold medal.

Judoka from Rio de Janeiro Rafaela Silva is a two-time world champion (2013 and 2022) and Olympic champion (2016) in judo. The athlete started fighting at the age of 8, when she joined the Instituto Reação, created by fellow Olympic medalist Flávio Canto.
