In research by Atlas Intel, fans of Flamengo chose Palmeiras as the red-black's biggest rival. The choice is related to the fact that the two teams are the ones that have most competed for recent titles in Brazilian and South American football. From 2019 to now, only Atlético-MG, the 2021 Brazilian champion, and Fluminense, who won the 2023 Libertadores, have managed to break the streak of Flamengo and Palmeiras players in the main tournaments on the Brazilian calendar.

A The survey had 2,015 respondents. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points. The reliability rate is 95%. The information collection period was between August 1 and 5, 2024.

Alviverde came in first place with 55.2% of the votes. Second place was Vasco with 26.2%. Fluminense, Flamengo's partner in the Maracanã concession, closes the podium with 8.7%.

In the same survey, Vasco was chosen as the team with the worst image among Flamengo fans. Only 12% of red and black people have a positive view of the São Januário club. 81% have a negative image and 7% did not know how to respond. Fluminense appears right behind with 70% of a negative view, 21% positive and 9% didn't know.

Vision of rivalry is reciprocal

In the same survey , but on the side alviverde , the Palmeirenses also placed the red-black among their main rivals, but in second position. Corinthians came first with a wide advantage (70.3%). However, Flamengo soon followed (22.7%) ahead of third-placed São Paulo (5.5%) despite being from another state. Due to an old rivalry, Santos does not appear among those voted.

“Every time you see them play, it’s worse”, says Casagrande about Tite’s Flamengo

Flamengo's performances have divided the opinions of fans and journalists. After Rubro-Negro's 1-1 draw with Vasco, last Sunday (15), former player and commentator Walter Casagrande spared no criticism of the team led by Tite.

— Everything we said of doubt about whether Flamengo will win or not is Flamengo's own responsibility, not because the others are better – only Botafogo, which is the best in the Brazilian Championship and perhaps in South America. But in relation to the other teams, the doubt about Flamengo is because of himself -, he began.

— Not because of the casting, because of the cast. You look and think: ‘This team isn’t going far’. He looks again and sees nothing. Every day you see Flamengo play, it's worse than before. I rule out Flamengo (in the Brazilian Championship) a little. (…) There's no point in playing well and getting a draw at the end -, he concluded, in participation in the program 'Fim de Papo', on UOL.

FEW POINTS ACHIEVED IN THE LAST GAMES

It is worth noting that Flamengo won just one of the last six games in the Brasileirão. In this period, there were three defeats, two draws and only one positive result. In other words, five points won out of a possible 18. With a draw with Vasco in the 26th round, Rubro-Negro saw Botafogo and Palmeiras beat Corinthians and Criciúma, respectively. In this way, the first two placed in the Brazilian Championship 'stretched' ahead.

Flamengo, however, still has one game less in relation to the first three placed in the national tournament table (Botafogo, Palmeiras and Fortaleza). In short, Tite's men are in the G-4 of the Brasileirão and still have a mathematical chance of winning the title.

In addition, Rubro-Negro is classified in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil, where they will face Corinthians. Finally, the Libertadores quarterfinals are ahead. This Thursday (19), in fact, the red and black team receives Peñarol (URU), in a duel for the continental competition. The ball rolls at 7pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã

Flamengo only drew 1-1 with Vasco, last Sunday (15). Mais Querido came to dominate a good part of the match, but due to defensive errors, Cruzmaltino scored the goal that tied the score. The first was from Léo Pereira, but on the counterattack, Fabrício Bruno and Evrtton Araújo also did not miss. After the goal, there was an argument between Tite and the red and black number 4.

At the beginning of the play, Léo Pereira is in attack, where he makes a good move on the left wing. However, the defender falls and loses the ball. Vasco's goal had a ball sent from right to left, where the defender should have been, leaving the side free for the smooth cross to reach Coutinho.

Soon after Vasco's goal, Tite argued with Léo Pereira, signaling an error by the defender in the attack. The defender did not like the reprimand, and appears to respond to the coach effusively, until he turns his back and swings his arm behind him.
