The red-and-blacks went wild in the last match against Corinthians, winning an impressive 2-0 victory at the legendary Maracanã stadium. The game, under the guidance of coach Tite, demonstrated the strength and cohesion of the Rio team, which imposed itself from the first minute.
The match was marked by an impressive performance from defender Varela, who once again once stood out for his security in the defensive line of Flamengo. The solidity and confidence he conveys were crucial in keeping the opposing team in check throughout the match.
A "POSITIONED" VARELA AT FLAMENGO
Right at the beginning of the clash, Flamengo showed its determination to seek victory. Pedro, with a masterful play, opened the scoring, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The striker, in great form, continues to prove his value on the field, being a key player in the team's tactical scheme.
It didn't take long for the second goal to come. This time, it was Lorran who left his mark, extending the advantage for the red and blacks. The move, involving and fast, left the opposing defense astonished, consolidating Flamengo's superiority in the confrontation.
Corinthians, in turn, fought bravely, but found an insurmountable wall in Flamengo's defense. The São Paulo team, despite some attacks, was unable to break through the opponent's block, coming up against the consistency and tactical organization of the Rio team.

During the visit, the Italian received the blessing of the rector of the Sanctuary, Father Omar, with whom he spoke about the preface he wrote for the book “More than the Limits - Sport according to Pope Francis”, written by Pope Francis.
He was accompanied by the general executive coordinator of the Men's National Teams , Rodrigo Caetano, his technical assistants, Paul Clement and Francesco Mauri, and performance analyst Simone Montanaro.

Mengão striker reveals extra training at Ninho do Urubu and points to medium and long-range shots as alternatives against defensive lines at Maracanã
|
During a press conference held last Friday (30), at Ninho do Urubu, Luiz Araújo analyzed the challenges faced by Flamengo when playing at home, especially against opponents who opt for defensive systems with low lines . According to the striker, the use of medium and long-range finishes plays a fundamental role in breaking this type of marking.
In his statements, Luiz Araújo was direct in stating that, given the difficulty of penetrating more compact defenses, the team needs to diversify its offensive options. “ We know that the teams that come to play at Maracanã will come with this line of five , and we have to train, train, improve every day, and of course we have to be creative, we have to have this finishing”, he declared.
Luiz Araújo also commented on the specific training sessions he does outside of the team's standard schedule. " I'm a player who demands a lot from myself, I train a lot every day , and after training I try to stay a little longer, to be able to finish with my teammates," he said.
In addition to finishing, he highlighted the set piece as another important alternative. “ I think this is a weapon for a defense that is very closed, this long-distance shot, and there is also the set piece,” he added.
With constant participation in games, Luiz Araújo has already played 27 matches in 2024, having contributed with five goals and five assists. Among the decisive moments is the goal scored in the final of the Supercopa do Brasil, against Botafogo, which confirmed his relevance in the Flamengo squad.

This Sunday (1st), Flamengo will host Fortaleza at Maracanã , at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship. The duel takes place at an important time for the Rio de Janeiro team, who are in second place in the table and still dream of taking the lead. Their opponents from Ceará are trying to escape the bottom of the standings and are in 16th place, the first team outside the relegation zone.
This Sunday's match will be the last in front of fans before the break for the Club World Cup , which will take place in the United States. With the aim of ending this cycle with a triumph, Mais Querido needs to win and hope for a stumble by Palmeiras against Cruzeiro, at Mineirão, to reach the top of the national table.
Coming from a 1-0 victory over Deportivo Táchira in the Libertadores , the Rio de Janeiro team secured second place in Group C and qualification for the round of 16 of the continental competition. The opponent in the next phase will be known on Monday (2), through a draw. For this Sunday's match, coach Filipe Luís will not be able to count on Gonzalo Plata, Pulgar and De la Cruz, all of whom are recovering from injuries.
Just like its rival from Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza also played a decisive round of the Libertadores in the middle of the week. Despite the 1-0 defeat against Racing in Argentina , the Ceará club secured second place in Group E and a spot in the round of 16. However, its performance in the Brazilian Championship is a concern, and the team led by Juan Pablo Vojvoda is trying to get back to winning ways to move away from the danger zone.
