Flamengo complicated its situation in the Libertadores after the 1-0 defeat to Peñarol (URU) last Thursday (19). Furthermore, on Sunday (22), the team suffered another setback, this time in the Brasileirão, losing 3-2 to Grêmio. Given these results, the pressure on coach Tite increased considerably within the club.

Despite the sequence of bad games, the red and black board maintains its support for Tite and is not considering dismissing the coach. As reported by Coluna do Fla, Flamengo's management plans to have the coach remain, at least until the return clash against Peñarol in the Libertadores. However, depending on the result in Uruguay, Tite's situation could become even more delicate.

Decisive reunion

The defeat at Maracanã complicated Flamengo's quest to qualify for the semi-finals of the Libertadores . The return game against Peñarol will take place next Thursday (26), at the Estadio Campeón del Siglo, in Montevideo, starting at 7pm (Brasília time). To guarantee a direct place in the semi-finals, Flamengo needs to win by two goals.

Brasileirão: distant title

In addition to the problems in the Libertadores, Flamengo also distanced itself from the dream of win the Brasileirão. The defeat to Grêmio left the team stuck in fourth place, with 45 points. Botafogo, leader of the championship, opened an 11-point lead, totaling 56 points.

Dissatisfied fans

Tite's relationship with the fans was already frayed, and the sequence of bad results it only made the situation worse. After the defeat to Grêmio, there were protests, including graffiti on the Gávea wall. Among the messages was the coach's request to leave: "Out, Tite".

Despite the pressure, Flamengo is now concentrating all its forces on the Libertadores, with the aim of leaving Uruguay with the place to the semi-finals guaranteed.

In a game valid for the 27th round of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo was defeated 2-1 by Grêmio this Sunday (22). Rubro-Negro now has just one victory in the last seven games of the competition. For commentator Lédio Carmona, Flamengo had a good performance against the Gauchos, but suffered from a lack of effectiveness in finishing.

“Flamengo really looked at the Brasileirão today with a certain indifference. But Flamengo played better than Grêmio, with team B, C. They played better. He was more organized, inspired, better defensively, better in midfield and better attacking. Even with 10 players, Flamengo ended the game with 20 shots. Grêmio had 12. Flamengo did everything better, but Grêmio was more effective”, stated 'Don Carmo' during the program Troca de Passes, on 'SporTV'.

With the result, Flamengo it remained in fourth place in the table, with 45 points, 11 behind leader Botafogo. According to Lédio Carmona, this difference complicated the Rio team's fight for the title: "Now Flamengo has distanced themselves a lot, they need a sequence of victories", commented the analyst.

Flamengo went to Porto Alegre with a reserve team, as 13 players stayed at CT Ninho do Urubu to focus on training for the decisive duel against Peñarol (URU), next Thursday Monday (26). Thus, the team that faced Grêmio had the presence of several young people from the red and black base.

Focus on Libertadores

Now, the focus of Flamengo is the second leg of the Libertadores quarter-finals. The Rio team visits Peñarol on Thursday (26), at 7pm (Brasília time), at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium, in Montevideo. Flamengo achieved its fourth consecutive defeat away from home in the Brasileirão, after being defeated by Grêmio this Sunday (22). Aiming for the big decision in the Libertadores, Tite sent a reserve team to the south. For journalist Pedro Ivo, the defeat for the Gauchos already began when the coach sent a team with athletes from the base.

Flamengo announced last Friday (20) that 12 athletes would not travel to Porto Alegre and that the Mais Querido would travel with a completely reserve team. Thus, journalist Pedro Ivo interpreted that this was a way of minimizing a defeat, which in fact happened, also pointing out it as an "institutional defeat".

“Flamengo on Friday (20) chooses to announce that he left 12 players in Rio. Flamengo's institutional defeat, for me, comes on Friday. Because there, it takes away all the weight of a defeat today. The defeat comes much more on Friday, when the committee sits down and decides to publicize this, which is not always common in Flamengo, to say who will travel, who will not travel”, said Pedro Ivo.

PEDRO IVO WARNING THAT FLAMENGO'S YEAR FOR CALLING DOWN AFTER GAME AGAINST PEÑAROL

Most Querido returns to the field this coming Thursday (26), when they face Peñarol, in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Libertadores . Needing to turn the match around, Pedro Ivo said that, in case of elimination for the Uruguayans, the red and black year would go downhill.

“Because of what he doesn't do in other competitions, due to lack of competence in other competitions, Thursday became the lifeline of a year, which could start to go downhill”, assessed Ivo before completing:

“And then it will have an impact on Brazilians, it will have an impact in the Copa do Brasil, it will have an impact on whether Tite stays or doesn’t stay, if he doesn’t get past Peñarol”, added the commentator.
