Pedro has already chosen the doctor who will be responsible for his surgery on his left knee after the serious injury suffered during training with the Brazilian team, on the 4th. The surgeon will be Luiz Antônio Vieira Martins, the same one who operated on the striker in 2018, when he suffered a similar injury .
Six years ago, on August 25, 2018, Pedro tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee while defending Fluminense, during a match against Cruzeiro. The difference between the injuries is the fact that, on that occasion, the player also needed a meniscus intervention, which did not happen this time.
After the injury in 2018, Pedro spent 235 days without playing , returning in April 2019. He was also the top scorer in the 2018 Brazilian Championship before getting injured, with 10 goals in 19 games, a scenario that will be repeated in 2024, where he leads the top scorer with 11 goals in 21 games.
Flamengo reported last Monday, during Gonzalo Plata's presentation, that Pedro's surgery should be carried out between Friday and Saturday this week. Without the center forward, the expectation is that Gabigol returns to play an important role in coach Tite's lineup.
Flamengo considered signing another player to replace Pedro's absence during his recovery, the main target being Frenchman Anthony Martial, but the athlete's values and injury history kept Rubro-Negro away from the negotiation.
The teams play the first game of the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."

The Flamengo squad finishes preparations for the match against Peñarol this Wednesday (18). So, while the squad completes training, Luiz Araújo undergoes knee surgery.
Luiz Araújo's arthroscopy is scheduled to take place this Wednesday (18). The striker's expected return to action can vary between one and two months. The information is from the Coluna do Fla portal.
Thus, the striker will miss Rubro-Negro in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores, against Peñarol, and against Corinthians, in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil.
So, with Luiz Araújo out, the Mais Querido squad continues preparing for the clash against Peñarol, in the Libertadores . The first game will be at Maracanã, on Thursday (19).
The ball will roll at 7pm, broadcast live throughout Brazil on ESPN, on a closed channel, and Disney+, via streaming. The decision will be valid for the Libertadores quarter-finals.
