The wait is finally over. This is because Flamengo debuted in the Copa Libertadores in 2024. In search of Tetra, Tite and his team went to Colombia, and this Tuesday they faced Millonarios, the home team. In this sense, the Rio team, despite coming out ahead, ended up conceding a 1-1 draw, thus avoiding a winning debut and bringing home only 1 point.

SUMMARY

Flamengo could have opened the scoring at the beginning of the game, with a very clear chance wasted by Viña, at El Campín, in Bogotá. However, those who had the most chances to leave the field with the advantage in the first half were Millonarios, especially in aerial plays. Cataño sent it out twice almost in the small area. Castro then headed against the post after a cross from Alfonzo. On the rebound, with Rossi beaten, Vásques shot out. Apart from Viña's chance, one of Tite's changes for this Tuesday's game, Flamengo made little threat to Montero's goal, going into half-time with the score 0-0.

At half-time, Tite made a change. Igor Jesus felt the game and had a lot of difficulties in the first half. So, the coach removed the boy and added Allan. Therefore, Flamengo paced the match, without rushing in the final stage, without suffering any scares, at least in the first moments.

With 15 minutes, penalty for Flamengo. When charged, Pedro hit safely and opened the score. Mengão with an advantage. When Flamengo seemed to have victory in hand, after all, they had one more player, Millonarios drew. Rubro-Negro made a mistake with the ball, so Rivaldo, from the Colombian team, left Erick Pulgar on the ground and crossed. Thus, Daniel Ruiz had the peace of mind to equalize, in the 34th minute.

Even with a numerical advantage, Flamengo was unable to control the game and suffered some scares in the match. However, Millonarios lacked the skill and quality to turn the game around. Therefore, the two teams were 1-1 in the debut of the Copa Libertadores da América.

What now?

With the draw at altitude, Flamengo has 1 point in the competition, as do Millonarios, that is, also tied in group E.

Next challenge

Flamengo now the key to the second game of the Carioca Championship final. In this sense, they face Nova Iguaçu at Maracanã, with a 3-0 advantage in the first leg. The duel that could give Tite his first cup at Flamengo, will take place next Sunday, at 5pm.

Flamengo continues to wait for the return of Arrascaeta, who has been sidelined since August 18th, when he suffered an injury to his left thigh. The number 14 is being monitored by the club's Medical Department and his return to the field is still uncertain for the decisive clash against Bahia, valid for the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil. The game will take place on September 12th, at 9:45 pm, at Maracanã.

Arrascaeta has not yet started the transition phase to the field, remaining under the care of Flamengo's medical department. With less than a week to go until the match, the club is racing against time to count on the return of the Uruguayan star. According to journalist Venê Casagrande, the player is in the final stage of recovery and there is an expectation that he will begin the physical transition next Monday (09).

IMPACT OF INJURIES IN THE SECOND HALF

An undisputed starter at Flamengo and frequently called up for the Uruguayan national team, Arrascaeta has faced physical problems throughout the seasons, especially in the second half, when the calendar becomes more intense. Since 2019, the midfielder has suffered 70% of his injuries after June, totaling 20 absences for Flamengo, 14 of them from that period.

FLAMENGO ADVANTAGE IN THE BRAZILIAN CUP

In the first match of the quarter-finals against Bahia, Flamengo won 1-0 away from home, with a goal from Bruno Henrique. With this result, Rubro-Negro can even draw at Maracanã to guarantee their place in the tournament's semifinals. The team hopes to count on Arrascaeta, but is also preparing alternatives to make up for his possible absence.

FLAMENGO LIKELY TO FACE BAHIA

Flamengo still has some doubts for the clash, but the likely lineup has names like: Rossi, Wesley (Varela), Fabrício Bruno, Léo Pereira, Ayrton Lucas, Pulgar (Léo Ortiz), Allan, Gerson, Luiz Araújo, Bruno Henrique and Gabigol (Arrascaeta).
