Flamengo was close to signing Irish striker Michael Johnston from West Bromwich. However, the deal was ultimately canceled after interference from president Bap, who faced internal pressure from supporters. The president then opened up about why he vetoed the player's arrival.
Bap talks about the reason for Mikey Johnston's withdrawal: "for Flamengo's needs, at this time, in my opinion, it was not ideal."

This is my job, this is being professional, regardless of other people's opinions. We listen to the scouts, Filipe Luís, Boto, the medical department... The only certainty I have is this: this process is longer, it's more painful, but it brings much more certainty and accuracy in the end. And benefits in the long run ," he concluded.
It's worth noting that Flamengo had already agreed to sign Michael Johnston from West Bromwich for £5 million (R$37 million). The striker was also scheduled to arrive in Rio de Janeiro. However, the board decided to cancel the deal, citing physical problems.
