Flamengo is seeking strategic partnerships to boost women's football. In a meeting with board members last Thursday (20), president Luiz Eduardo Baptista highlighted that the sport generates a high annual cost, around R$12 million, while revenue is only around R$1 million. To optimize management and resources, the management of the women's team was transferred to the club's Olympic sports department.
JOSÉ BOTO AND THE NEW ADMINISTRATION
When he took office at the end of 2023, football director José Boto made it clear that he had no experience with women's football. As a result, responsibility for the sport was passed on to the vice president of Olympic sports and rowing, Edson Menezes. In addition, the board is banking on Marcus Vinícius Freire, former director of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), to contribute to the structuring and growth of the project.
POSSIBLE PARTNERSHIP WITH PETROBRAS
During the meeting with the board members, Luiz Eduardo Baptista stressed the need to attract investment so that the club's women's soccer team can compete at a high level. To this end, the board is seeking to reconnect with Petrobras, a company that was one of the major sponsors of the men's team in the 1980s. The idea is to secure a financial support contract, allowing the women's team to compete with clubs that dominate the sport, such as Corinthians, Palmeiras and São Paulo.
One of the first measures taken by the current administration to strengthen the women's team was to change the training center. Until last year, the players trained at the CEFAN training center of the Brazilian Navy. Now, training takes place at the Zico Football Center (CFZ), a location that offers more structure and facilitates logistics for the athletes and coaching staff.
The club is looking to strengthen its structure to compete on equal terms with the teams that dominate the category. In recent years, the women's teams of Corinthians, Palmeiras and São Paulo have won the country's main titles. The board of directors of Mengão wants to change this scenario and believes that, with the right investments and strategic partnerships, the women's team can reach a new level.

Flamengo beat Internacional 1-0 this Wednesday (13) , at Maracanã, and started with an advantage in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Despite the positive result, striker Bruno Henrique assessed that the team lost performance in the second half and explained the reasons for the drop in intensity.
" In the second half, for the first 15 minutes , we want to score right away, and it ends up deviating a bit from what we planned at halftime. We end up being a bit exposed, and the opposing team scores a lot in the first half. In the second half, they have to open up to try to score," said the number 27.
"That's what happened against Internacional. They scored the whole time in the first half. We had more possession, more shots, and more through balls. With the victory, the red-black team needs only a draw in the second leg to guarantee a place in the quarterfinals of the Libertadores. Midfielder Jorge Carrascal made his debut for Flamengo this Wednesday (13), against Internacional , in a duel valid for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. The Colombian player, who was already regularized, was related last Saturday (9), against Mirassol, but did not enter the field on that occasion.
The opportunity arose during the continental tournament. Carrascal replaced Gonzalo Plata in the 28th minute of the second half and remained on the field for 23 minutes, including stoppage time. Playing at the Maracanã, the athlete made his first appearances in an official match for the red-and-black jersey.
